Ocasio-Cortez: People Should Be ‘Excited About Automation' Taking Their Jobs
Breitbart ^ | 3/10/19 | Joshua Caplan

Appearing at the SXSW conference Saturday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said people should be excited by the prospect of robots taking their jobs because it will afford them more time to pursue their creative passions. Ocasio-Cortez speculated fears over automation stem from a lack of financial safety net and economic uncertainty. “We should not be haunted by the specter of being automated out of work,” the self-avowed democrat-socialist said, according to Fast Company. “We should not feel nervous about the tollbooth collector not having to collect tolls. We should be excited by that. But the reason we’re not excited about it is because we live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die.”

The freshman congresswoman floated a proposal by billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates to tax robots at 90 percent to make up workers’ lost income from automation. “Whether it’s a tax rate, whether it’s distributing wealth that’s created by automation – if we approach solutions to our systems and start entertaining ideas like that, then we should be excited about automation because of what it could potentially mean,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez then mused that with adequate policies in place, introducing more robots into the workforce could allow society more time to dabble in art and science, and actually increase the pace of innovation, freeing up “more time enjoying the world we live in.”

“Not all creativity needs to be bonded by wage,” she said to loud applause.

As Ocasio-Cortez eluded to in her remarks, the vast majority of Americans are opposed to robots replacing them in certain work settings.

Not just Bill Gates but Andrew Yang has conceived an entire presidential campaign by trying to solve this anticipated a problem of robots and artificial intelligence replacing workers with a guaranteed monthly stipend from the government of one thousand dollars.

The solution is crazy but is the problem something we can ignore? I have been writing for some time, more than a year, that if conservatives do not find a way to solve this problem we will be the victims of and upheavel that will cast aside the Constitution and "fundamentally transform America" as we used to know her. If the threat is real, consider the threat to our liberty of whole swaths of America turning into a dystopian mess exceeding the plight of the Rust Belt.

If you think the threat is so improbable as to be dismissed out of hand ask yourself, is the contrived threat of global warming a threat from which we can expect to escape the tentacles which the left will wrap around us to save us from "climate change."

Finally, rather than address this problem on a realistic basis, it has become the custom in this forum to attack the messenger which is akin to a leftist screaming "racist" when he doesn't like the facts.

“...introducing more robots into the workforce could allow society more time to dabble in art and science...”

That must be why there has been such magnificent art and profound scientific achievement coming from places where most of the inhabitants spend their time hanging out on street corners.

Yea, but do we?

Do we really?

I think we should tax every copy of the windows operating system at 90% to pay for all of the secretaries and office help put out of work due to the increased productivity computers provide.

Bill Gates should agree.

Just thought of another definition for the acronym AOC.

Abort Our Children.

Seems fitting based on what AOC has been espousing.

Don’t they he though th a t they will be paying at least 90% more for the products than they otherwise would have if they didn’t tax the robot.

Pelosi used the same garbage argument when pushing ObamaCare. The experience of the welfare state clearly shows 9939% people on the program are not spending their time on “creative” pursuit. I think AOC has watched too many episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Work should only be an option. A guaranteed income is “where it’s at” now.

“The freshman congresswoman floated a proposal by billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates to tax robots at 90 percent”

She should visit a car factory some day. These robots aren’t like the soy boys she’s used to. They can sweep around and knock you 50 feet, and you’ll live, if you’re lucky. Or they’ll turn at you and fire a laser and literally put a quarter inch hole right through you as effectively as any high power rifle.

I would advise her to THINK VERY CAREFULLY before messing with robots - they are not going to appreciate a 90% tax rate.

According the St. Louis Fed, the Civilian Employment-Population Ratio was 60.7 for February 2019.

39.3% don't have jobs and nobody is starving who doesn't want to.

Agreed. If it were not for her real crimes and corruption, I would believe she’s just pretending to be a Democrat to mock them.
