CONCORD A University of New Hampshire student who registered to vote in Durham and cast an absentee ballot in Massachusetts during the 2016 election admitted to committing voter fraud on Thursday.
Spencer McKinnon, 21, pleaded guilty in Strafford County Superior Court to a misdemeanor charge of providing a false statement on a voter registration form, the Attorney Generals office announced Friday. His sentence of six months in a house of corrections was suspended on the condition that he complete 200 hours of community service and pay a $2,000 fine. McKinnon also lost the right to vote in New Hampshire.
On Oct. 24, 2016, McKinnon mailed an absentee ballot to the clerk in his hometown of Dracut, Mass. Two days later, he signed a voter registration form in Durham and attested that he was not domiciled or voting in any other state or any other city/town, according to the Attorney Generals office.
McKinnon was originally indicted on a felony voter fraud charge for actually voting in Durham after having voted in Massachusetts, but the Attorney Generals office dropped that charge as part of the plea agreement.
His conviction was the first one resulting from the states use of the Interstate Voter Crosscheck Program. So far, the Attorney Generals office has also brought voter fraud charges against three other people for casting ballots in the 2016 election.

Boy, is this ever discouraging. This kid, at a minimum, should be expelled from UNH and do jail time.

If he had voted for an American candidate he would be spending a couple of years in jail...

Now he’s a Progressive hero. And he’ll do it again and encourage others to do it too.

Slap on the wrist because he undoubtably voted the “right” way in the eyes of the judge.

Double voting is a huge problem and it will take real jail sentences to stop them.

I’m ok with spending the sentence but the fine needs to really bite. Im thinking 10k minimum. Put it on par with a DUI fine.

Tip of the iceberg. All the Yalies clamoring for their same day ballots at New Haven City Hall were doing the same thing with impunity.

I live in NH. This is one of hundreds of students who’ve done this. He just got caught. The wheels of justice turn slow in this state. Stay tuned.
