A black man should be killed if hes messing with a white woman. This sentiment was uttered not in 1875 but 1975 by a man with an airport named in his honor. This brings us to the effort to strip late actor John Waynes name from the airport in Orange County, California.
Those advocating such point to what they consider the sheer crudeness of the actors feelings about gay people, black people, Native Americans, young people and liberals, as the Los Angeles Times Michael Hiltzik puts it. But my opening, eyebrow-raising quotation is whats truly shocking here. Lets be fair: How can a man who uttered it have an airport named after him in 2019?

Because the man who uttered it was not John Wayne.

BTW - John Wayne hated the Airport (long before it was named for him) because he lived in Newport Harbor and the departing Planes made a whole bunch of noise.

We lived in OC for 40+ years before finally making our escape 13 years ago to GA. Could not believe the election results.

Absolutely true. We had a flight school at JWA for the time we lived there and there wasn’t anyone who complained more than he did and yet, he had one of the noisiest private airplanes on the field.
What’s the latest on the plane that crashed a few weeks ago in Tustin (?) leaving Fullerton Airport? Haven’t heard a thing or found anything more.
