Ever wonder why people hate lawyers? Consider Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosensteins non-denial denial of his participation in discussions of an attempted coup against the duly elected president of the United States.
The story is being given a second life thanks to the hype surrounding the rollout of a new book by Andrew McCabe, the former deputy director of the FBI.
McCabe, of course, was fired after an inspector general investigation found that he leaked investigative information and then lied about it. He has been referred to the Justice Department for consideration of a false-statements prosecution.
There is no doubt that, when he was acting FBI director after President Trumps May 2017 firing of Director James Comey, McCabe huddled with Rosenstein to mull over options for removing the president from office.
But we have known this for six months ever since The New York Times published its bombshell report. Indeed, at the time, I wrote a column about it for National Review titled Rod Rosensteins Resistance weasel words, weasel moves from an emotionally overwrought deputy AG eager to ingratiate himself with Democrats.
There are really no new revelations in this weeks breathless reporting. The story is a retread, trotted out again because CBS is hoping to generate ratings for its 60 Minutes interview of McCabe on Sunday night, the launch of the McCabe book tour.
There has been a good deal of commentary this week about whether McCabe and Rosenstein were seriously brainstorming about a coup attempt; or whether, instead, discussions about invoking the 25th Amendment and possibly wiring up against the president (i.e., covertly recording him) were just graveyard humor. The truth is somewhere in the middle: The conversation was no joke, but the idea was lunacy.

McCabe and Rosenstein were seriously brainstorming about a coup attempt.
Another reason to never outlaw hanging.
"If the McCabe revelations didn't wake people up and the media is now letting the story fade what hope is there? "
It's just unbelieveable the way NO-ONE is doing ANYTHING.
(They're treating this as if they were errant schoolboys caught skipping a class)
I've heard rumors: ...
I'm okay waiting a bit (just a few more weeks).
I have lots of popcorn.
I look at the players, and this is much easier picking the winners and losers than in any prize fight or horserace I've ever seen.
Who are these Democrats crapping there panties? Has anyone committed 'suicide' yet?
A few fringe Democrats may be throwing hissy fits but I don't see the 'panic'.
I think you're way over confident. If that was all going on, some of the traitors in the WH would be leaking it.
Stay tuned.
Aye.
I'll be happy, happy, happy when youre correct.
That wasn't my statement. I was quoting another poster.
Meaning the death of the rule of law and the death of the nation.
The radical left are in firm control of our 4 trillion dollar corrupt stasi state. And they’re in the process of removing the last guy who had a legitimate means of doing anything about it.
It is sad.
When is someone going to act?
“McCabe and Rosenstein were seriously brainstorming about a coup attempt.”
Mueller is carrying out the coup now.
PDJT can appoint a special counsel. As many as he needs to get to the bottom of this massive conspiracy of high treason.
But it’s becoming apparent that he’s not really in control of anything in the executive branch.
Be that as it may, I continue to love and support Donald Trump.
I’ll leave the cynicism and defeatism to others.
When people reach a certain point in their careers and lives, it's almost impossible for them to question their assumptions...ie,the integrity and impartiality of the FBI and DOJ that was no longer valid.
RATs have weaponized the federal government against conservatives. Those blinded by their 'knowledge' such as McCarthy impede justice.
He will pay the price too.

I could not agree more.
I’m not recalling what OC was.
Sorry... thanks.
Obamacare
Oh yeah...
Good call.
They had so many things they could have addressed. It’s an exercise in futility to research it.
They had waited for years telling us what they had in mind.
And then bupkis...
Address what?
I’ll never forget Ryan and McConnell’s role in all this.
Clearly, we have a conspiracy to initiate a coup d'etat. The FBI-DOJ should swing into action. But, no...the FBI-DOJ is the Perpetrator...tomorrow and tomorrow creeps by from day to day with no action.
Clearly, Hillary was grossly negligent in handling Classified info, a serious crime. But, no...The FBI-DOJ explains she was merely "extremely careless"...no problem...tomorrow and tomorrow creeps by from day to day with no action.
