The bipartisan spending binge is now worse than under Bush and Obama
CR ^ | February 15, 2019 | Daniel Horowitz

We’re now $22 trillion in debt, yet despite all that red ink, the Mexican cartels have control of our border and we’re not one bit closer to spending money on our own security. We’ve gone into deep debt for everything except the core function of the federal government.

Now, the only question Republicans have is how many pennies of border security they will fight for, while refusing to challenge any of the nonessential and even harmful programs of the federal government. The GOP platform on debt and spending is a lie from top to bottom, as Republicans plan to pass more budget bills allowing us to blow through the budget caps without any effort to systemically reform the way we budget.

Thanks to Republican-approved budget deals, for the first three months of the fiscal year, outlays for HHS are up 12.5 percent, outlays for the Department of Education spiked 23 percent, and outlays for the Department of Commerce have doubled! Meanwhile, outlays on Homeland Security have actually been down by 30 percent because of less disaster spending under FEMA than last year. But it’s not like we went on a spending binge for Border Patrol and ICE. Outlays on military spending are up 8.45 percent, but again, what is the purpose of the military if we use it everywhere else in the world except against those who most directly harm us at our own border?

Before anyone here gets to worked up, it’s important to note that the author of the article is NOT blaming Trump for this. Instead, he’s blaming the Republicans in Congress.

Fiscal conservatism in the Republican party disappeared after 9/11. That and the term balanced budget likely has not crossed the Presidents lips. Of course why worry when the Fed can create money out of thin air. /s

“You can’t be for big government, big taxes, and big bureaucracy and still be for the little guy.”

“As government expands, liberty contracts.”

“We could say [Democrats (and now Republicans)] spend money like drunken sailors, but that would be unfair to drunken sailors. It would be unfair, because the sailors are spending their own money.”

“Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”

However..

Trump signs the bills in to law.

I know it’s a pipe dream but if trump won’t stop this spending we are screwed.

The country as we knew it is lost forever

Subsidizing illegal immigration can get very expensive.

America has a completely printed currency, with manipulated interest rates and massive debt, courtesy of the Federal Reserve. For the time being, we are also the world’s reserve currency.

Until this changes no politician and certainly no US Government will ever resist resist the urge to spend wildly on statist, progressive programs.

All an individual can do is try to ride the wave and try and protect themselves.

The GOP gives Planned Parenthood 500 million a year and they give the DEMOCRATS how many millions for elections..

Agreed. Trump has used the bully pulpit for many things. But he has said next to nothing about the ever-growing federal deficit. I find that puzzling, and disheartening.

And I don’t buy the old give-him-time excuse. That’s the standard excuse for Republicans these days. We’ve got to take care of X, Y, and Z first. Then we’ll tackle the deficit.

And yeah, I think you’re right about the country slipping away. I suppose that within 50 years the USA will be one part socialist Sweden, one part socialist Venezuela, and one part Mexico.

I threw in the Mexico part because there will be low-level, continuing violence.

I’m no longer worried about the debt.
Let the new Spanish speaking owners pay it.

That happened on Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009 when ALL of our elected clapped like trained seals for the ineligible Kenyan from Indonesia.

Yup. Biggest downside of what just happened IMHO.

Clearly NOBODY is serious about reining in Federal spending.
Apparently they all agree with AOC that we can just mint a trillion dollar platinum coin and keep the printing presses running.

Conservative Inc has been whining about this since 1980s. US Voter don’t care. Until Conservative Inc can get voters to support this agenda item, this sort of posturing is useless bloviating.

The truth is Conservative Inc, like the GOP-E, just want things to whine and bitch about every day. They are far too lazy to actually do the hard work of governing. That why they have been the most useless inept poltical movement in US History. Should change their name to “Bitch and Moan Inc”.

Waste of time. Never happen. IF, big IF, it did it would have so many loop holes it would make the tax code seem like Cliff Notes.

A pipe dream.

I’m still waiting for the promised apocalypse due to our national debt that I have been hearing about for as long as I can remember. (69 yrs old)
