The two brothers being questioned about a reported attack on “Empire” star Jussie Smollett both know the actor from working on the show and also spent time with him at a gym, according to their attorney, Gloria Schmidt.
But Schmidt denied they had anything to do with the attack in Streeterville late last month as police sources said detectives are investigating the possibility that Smollett staged the incident with the help of the brothers.
“They are baffled about why they are people of interest,” Schmidt told CBS-Ch. 2. “It’s an awful thing that happened to Jussie, but it's not my guys.”
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi has emphasized that the two “are not considered suspects at this time” and has characterized as “unconfirmed” reports that the attack was faked.
A law enforcement source told the Tribune the two men, who are black and in their 20s, were brought in for questioning Wednesday night from O’Hare International Airport.
Guglielmi said detectives were able to track the movement of the men through cameras in the area where the attack occurred around 2 a.m. Jan. 29 in the 300 block of East North Water Street. He released no other details, but a source familiar with the investigation said at least one of the men was traced through his use of a ride-share service.

So this production company is bringing in Nigerians to play black Americans on TV - in Chicago of all places?
Nigerians aren’t too fond of American blacks.

They knew him but they had to ask if he was that...so and such that is on that Empire show?
So he might have given them their “motivation” for the “scene” they were acting out, but told them to fill in the dialogue, thinking that these two could actually deliver believable lines that wasn’t so terrible when retold that it made the story suspect from the start.
Good enough for a Daytime Emmy I guess.
I’ll just bet they “knew” him.
Something tells me that he knows the mayor who is the boss of the cops is dumb, and will tell the cops to make the whole incident go away so that Smullett can go join OJ on the golf course to look for the real culprits.

It’s just a wild coincidence that all three ‘empire’ cast members were unknowingly in close proximately on a freezing chicago night.
It was some Puerto Rican guy.
I mean he’s a “male”, I think, but I dunno if I would call him a guy.
This is from quite some time ago too, because a couple of years ago or so I remember seeing an article on what a good looking gay man this fellow grew into... barf.
But still it’s a pretty funny gif and perfect for Jussie.
But do they throw bleach and put nooses around their necks? Naw, not right after they were socializing and 'working out' at the gym.
Seems similar to the Matthew Sheppard case. Some still tout it as a horrific example of homophobia. Horrific, yes, BUT it turned out Sheppard was killed by 2 acquaintances who were just as gay as him because of a dispute over drugs.
“Did I make that up too?” Smollett asked in the interview with Roberts.
Uh, yeah, I think so. But we’ll see.
I almost want to believe this guy at this point watching this train wreck. But if the news reports are true what were these guys doing in that neighborhood at that time of the night the situation is just too obvious.
But it is possible that he met those guys and is covering it up whether or not they were involved in the attack.

He uses “person of interest”, the fake FBI term used against Richard Jewell, hero of the Atlanta Olympics.
Like it or not, they are suspects. They have been detained, the police think they were involved in the crime (a false report scam).
Did Smollett say the it was definitely the men in the video who attacked him?
Exec from the show were in the area yesterday - my guess is to make a BIG contribution to Rham.
