I challenge anyone to tell me a different outcome if Trump vetoed the bill:

1) Both houses passed it with enough votes to override. Does anyone think they wouldn’t?

2) If in fact Yertle twisted arms to prevent an override, how effective would another shutdown be? There were already defectors appearing 3 weeks ago.

This was not just the right response by Trump, it was the ONLY response possible.

no he could have declared the emergency and vetoed. I f the veto was upheld, the congress could still pass the spending bill and avoided the shut down, since the wall would be tied up in court.

Making republican senators override his veto hurts them for re-election. So what? What good are they? It was worth that to stand on principle. Whatgood is it if the laws make illegal immigration easier and delay deportation, while you think we’re secure behind a partial wall?
