Why didn't the Freedom Caucus use their leverage when Paul Ryan (whom they allowed to become Speaker not once, but twice) was Speaker? They're either complicit in Ryan's treachery or didn't see any urgency in the Deplorable Agenda? Didn't some of think there was a political advantage to keeping the issues on the table? Didn't they suspect that Paul Ryan and his fellow Deep Staters would deliberately lose their House majority?

The nation is over. President Trump should find other reasons to keep the invaders housed until they're return home is expediated. Guantanamo for the worst of them?

It’s smart negotiating. What will Trump get out of this deal?

1. An end to “Trump’s vanity project” talk. Now it will be “Congress-approved Wall”.

2. He can take credit for avoiding another shutdown and show that the first one was required to get Congress to even make this much of a concession toward border security.

3. He will not have given up ANY of his other options.

4. He can add to this funding via the other legal means that his team has identified and Congress can hardly question doing so when it’s just adding discretional funding from excecutive agencies to what Congress has already lawfully appropriated.

5. All the other funding opportunities still exist, including future budget cycles.

President Trump must know that he is unlikely to be re-elected if the Wall is not built or in the process of some serious, extensive construction at the time he is running for re-election. So he has 18 months or so to really get this moving. How he gets there, I don’t care. No use in giving up now.

This is interesting. The bill is going to pass with more dem votes the repub in the house. It will pass the senate with more dem votes then repubs. And Trump will sign it. And we have the POTUS and a senate majority. I don’t blame Trump, he was left out to dry the last time. But the gopE has shown itself to be completely useless again. The dems can control the agenda without a majority. Give them a single lever, like a majority in the house, and they can rule completely. The one thing I will say, is there better be a full on recorded vote. None of this pass by voice vote BS. Lets see where they stand coming up on an election year.

None of it matters anyway, IMHO.

The president has said firmly and repeatedly he’s going to build the wall with or without congress, Mulvaney says they know where to find the money for it, and I’m taking both at their word.

This looks like a very lame caving deal. DO NOT SIGN THIS. It’s a pathetic deal.

Due to the limits on the number of people ICE can keep in housing, I wonder if it is better not to accept this deal, sign off on a CR that had no such limits and then try funding the wall etc. using other DoD funding including National Emergency funds.

I think signing off on this current deal would not make his base happy at all.

Anyway, that is just my thoughts on all this.

Trump already has a passed bill and signed law: The Secure Fence Act of 2006. Simply take what funding is needed out of relevant agencies to finance it. Let Congress sue itself to try and reverse its own passed bill.

If Trump signs the bad border funding deal into law, there will be something in the bill that negates his ability to use the present legal powers he now has to build the wall or barrier. Even if there isn’t such explicit language in the new bill, a dishonest liberal judge will rule that because the new bill addresses the border issue, and it is the latest expression by Congress regarding the border, it carves out the border issue from the present laws that allow Trump to take action to protect the country. Trump should not sign the bill.
