Agreed. Seems to be the style today for young women to squash their voice down to the back of their throat where it gets gravelly, and then force it out through their nose. Lately I've been listening to radio show classics from the 30s and 40s, and absolutely none of those women speak like these modern snotty whiners.

I think I have gotten phone an AM radio confused.
The range of the human voice extends from 80 Hz to 14 kHz but traditional, voiceband or narrowband telephone calls limit audio frequencies to the range of 300 Hz to 3.4 kHz.
