I wonder if he knows the price of a 6 pack of Blatz or Schlitz beer?
That depends on the state. I used to buy Blatz for $1.39 a six at Lincoln Liquors on 53rd Street in S Side Chicago in the mid-80s(now gone). Schlitz used to be the #3 selling beer, and then slipped after a reformulation that went bad, plus really bad marketing (Strohs and Coors picked up the customers at that time).
A step down from Blatz was "Red, White and Blue" ($1.29). Tuborg (in green bottles!) was a good deal for $1.79. Koch's Holiday Beer was a false bargain for 99 cents a six. I probably shouldn't have bought it in July. The worst of all was "Break Beer" at the Stokes General Store in Front Royal, VA for $2.99 a case. A college pal of mine bought all they had (4 1/2 cases left) and had his friends over. The beer tasted like putrid dishwater and wasn't even useful for getting a buzz. It mostly wound up in the Shenandoah River without being processed. My pal came close to losing his friends.
They don't sell Blatz here in Arizona, but my guess is that it would go for $3.99 a six in Chicago.

My pal came close to losing his friends.
Maybe that was his plan. If his pals cant pitch in to buy better beer, they cant complain about the beer they get and he needs new friends.

Im old enough to remember Generic Beer. White cans with the word BEER printed on them. $4.00 a case. Brewed by G. Heileman and Sons so it was most likely Old Style that didnt pass their rigorous QC. LOL.
Then there was Mickeys Wide Mouth if you wanted to pour it straight down your gullet without disturbing your taste buds at all.
Best,
L
