Mr. Ali is among the first 30 members of the all-volunteer Muslim Community Patrol & Services that is preparing to operate in neighborhoods in Brooklyn, with a goal of growing its fleet of two cars to five by the end of the month and eventually expanding citywide. The group recently held a training led by off-duty officers from the Police Department’s 72nd Precinct.
“It’s like a neighborhood watch but on steroids,” said Noor Rabah, the group’s 31-year-old vice president who lives in Sunset Park.
As word of the new patrol has begun to spread, the backlash has been swift, even among some members of the Muslim community who have criticized the lack of information, and even questioned the need for the patrol.
Like the Shomrim that patrols largely Hasidic neighborhoods in Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Asian Safety Patrol that operates mainly in Sunset Park, the new group — believed to be the first of its kind in the country — hopes to function as extra sets of eyes and ears for the police....

I wonder what the city’s reaction would be to a “Baptist Community Patrol” or a “Christian Community Patrol.”
When there is a incident and there WILL be an incident, who will be held responsible? The city for allowing this?
Looking for unaccompanied women with their heads uncovered? Unmutilated adolescent girls? Ham sandwiches? We can sleep better tonight.

Wow - looks and sounds like the beginnings of Muslim paramilitary/militia forces who will perhaps eventually become rivals to - or replace - the regular police.
What the actual fek? Can you imagine one day after 9/11 this possibly happening as we are still in Afghanistan some 18 years later? I also read they are being trained by (off duty)NYPD. We live in strange times.
Christians could form one and find out.
Is this group really comparable to the Asian and Jewish groups that apparently already exist? I never heard of any of this before.

Muslim community police? What could possibly go wrong?

Nobody will like them. You can bet I’ll be giving them death stares whenever I see them.

This sounds like the beginning of an effort to have Muslims police their own neighborhoods, which will eventually become no-go zones for the regular police.
