The Norsk do love their tunnels, and very good at building them.

How does it work when things are frozen? I would prefer the scenery.

E39 is maybe the most fun I have ever had driving. Ive driven it down from the Arctic Circle, where vast herds of reindeer randomly cross the road. 160 kilometers south where herds of sheep cross the road.
Then you head through the fjords area where thatch roofed troll houses cover the hillsides. The fjord water is so still, the reflections of the mountains makes a direct opposite image on the water.
The ferries are fun and there is never a long wait. But it gives you a chance to sightsee and take in the wonders in front of you.
And the winding roads are a sports car lovers dream. Double switchbacks and tunnels are common as you drive along roads clinging to the sides of the fjords.
It is worth every minute of the drive.

Things are already falling off the underwater tunnel in the artist's rendering...

To me, this seems an affront to the devils of engineering.

If they build them, I will probably still never go to Norway.

Yep, incredible roads. Gasoline is still a bit pricey, at $10/gallon last time I looked, but Diesel is less and the Diesel cars always get great mileage. Needless to say, they’re now outlawing Diesel, to be replaced by Teslas, LOL. Also, needless to say, even with their great roads, the vast majority of their gas taxes do not get used for roads.
But then, what the heck, they only have a decade or so left before transitioning to Islam, so if they want to live it up now, then more power to them!!!
