Crisis Magazine ^ | 1/30/19 | Fr. George Rutler

...From his rambling rhetoric, untutored diction, and scant intellectual formation, we may assume that Governor Cuomo has escaped the brush of Lord Acton’s aphorism that power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Cuomo’s power may not be absolute, although it has now proven deadly, but even power that is not absolute enjoys a blithe courtship with vice. His official website now displays the cook with whom he shares a home in a relationship that would have exercised John the Baptist...

Although our Founding Fathers rejected an hereditary form of government

And this writer criticizes others about their grammar?

It is a traditional rule of English that the article ‘an’ can be used before words that begin with an H sound if the first syllable of that word is not stressed. Indeed, some traditionalists would say it must be used before such words.

The "h" is hereditary is "stressed" and "pronounced."

The rule is "a" before a consonant and "an" before a vowel or a word starting with a vowel sound (like "M" in MBA).

This authors usage sounds pretentious at best and erroneous at worst.

The good father can write.

Ignoring the objections of more than 100,000 petitioners, Andrew named the Tappan Zee replacement bridge over the Hudson River in honor of his father.
The arrogance of this creep is incredible. And to get away with promoting encouraging and signing a bill to allow the MURDER of babies at their due date surrounded by “applauding” supporters is despicable. Piss be upon you, may the wrath of the lord pay you back ten fold in your life

I certainly hope Trump addresses the new NY law and the attempted 3rd trimester abortion law in Virginia in the SOTU. Early word is that he will.

The barbarity of intentionally killing a viable child because of the mother’s alleged mental anguish leaves decent people speechless.

This is why they have adoption. Can’t handle a child - fine; we all get that; but there are so many families waiting for an adopted child - don’t take it out on a defenseless infant.

re: “And this writer criticizes others about their grammar? “

Maybe his version of Grammarly was at fault?

Heheh. Quite possible.

BTW, I should have also added in my corrective post upthread that in addition to an "a" being used before a word starting with a consonant, it should also be used before a word starting with a vowel if that vowel sounds like a consonant (like the word "unicorn"...starting with a "yu" sound).

I usually adhere to that "no FR posts after mid-night or before 5:00 a.m. rule). Couldn't sleep last night.;-)

The child in your womb IS NOT YOURS!

It is abhorrent for one human to OWN another. You don’t OWN that 100% separate and distinct individual. DNA says so!

You have no “right” to MURDER that 100% separate and distinct individual.

That person has a beating heart and brain activity (at 20 + DAYS). They could not be terminated if just ONE of those were present in an adult.

Human life begins at conception. PERIOD.

It is time for a constitution amendment to end this infanticide.

As far as rape and incest go... the child has nothing to do with either!

TWO wrongs don’t make a right.

I had the opportunity to eat dinner with Fr. Rutler. I asked him if he listened to Rush Limbaugh and he said, “Oh my yes. That is a good and very knowledgable man.”
