The Cops Were the Aggressors in This Week's Deadly Houston Drug Raid
Reason ^ | 1-29-19 | Jacob Sullum

On Monday evening in Houston, a dozen armed men broke into the home of Dennis Tuttle and Rhogena Nicholas, a middle-aged couple who had lived in the house at 7815 Harding Street for at least two decades. The first man through the door, who was armed with a shotgun, used it to kill one of the couple's dogs. Tuttle responded to the home invasion by grabbing a revolver and shooting the man with the shotgun, who collapsed on a sofa in the living room. As Nicholas tried to disarm the intruder, his accomplices shot her. Tuttle returned fire, and by the end of the shootout he and his wife were both dead. Four of the assailants were hit by gunfire, while a fifth injured his knee.

Acevedo confirmed that they didn't find heroin at the residence, but did find cocaine and marijuana. He says an informant had previously bought drugs at the house. The substance was tested and confirmed as heroin.

Why did the sister of the guy that shot apologize to the police officers?

What she said was: "We are so sorry that this situation happened. My prayer is for the officers and their families." That's not an apology, that's an expression of sympathy, no different than telling someone you're sorry their grandmother died. She also said that she didn't believe they were dealing heroin, telling the newspaper, "I don't buy it at all. Not one hot minute."

What a dumb, liberal cliché.

Yeah, that Ben Franklin. What a dumb liberal he was, right?

“As it is better a hundred guilty go free than one innocent person be imprisoned.
What a dumb, liberal cliché. It completely ignores the harm the 100 guilty men are going to do to innocent people.”

The founders understood that an out of control state was far more dangerous to the liberty of American citizens than any two bit criminal.

“BTW, the two druggie losers that were shot were not innocent. They were hardcore drug users. They unleashed a pit bull on police officers, tried to disarm one and shot at them.”

All American citizens are innocent until proven guilty. They did none of the things you describe until after plain clothed men bashed in their door.

“Why shouldn’t they have to knock? Because violent criminals would ambush officers if they had. Is that really hard to understand?”

Not hard to understand, just hard to imagine busting down the door, putting everyone in danger, was preferable to say waiting for the guy to go to the store. Or check his mail. Especially important considering the possible ambush you speak of. For instance, in war if you know an ambush is around the corner, do you rush the corner? Of course not. You hold back and try to draw the enemy out. Fight on your terms not their prepared ground.

“Acevedo confirmed that they didn’t find heroin at the residence, but did find cocaine and marijuana. He says an informant had previously bought drugs at the house. The substance was tested and confirmed as heroin.”

So here we have it don’t we. A no knock warrant issued for heroin and a 9mm semi auto pistol. None of which were found. All on the words of another druggie that had turned informant. But hey, the ends justified the means right.

Also I find it funny how the druggie that gave the info is somehow an angel and the druggies in the house are evil scum.....but I digress.

I will leave you with my final thoughts.

No knock warrants are dangerous, of dubious constitutionality (not legal for this instance until 1995), and should only be reserved for the most severe cases. In ‘05 alone 50,000 no knock warrants were signed and carried out. A number which has certainly grown since then.

I personally do not care about the people in question, nor this particular raid in general. I care about the rights of my fellow Americans, and the seemingly constant eroding of those rights under the guise of safety, or for our own good, or for the children. I reject those arguments outright.

Thank you for your time and patience. I understand that we will never see eye to eye on this, but I appreciate your candid responses.

The two people were shot were not innocent. They unleashed a pit bull on one officer, tried to disarm another and shot a total of five officers. Police defended themselves and they died. So be it.

These were not considered two bit criminals. They were considered deal traffickers. An informant had bought heroin at the location.

Drug trafficking, arguably, results in more deaths than any other activity in the country. The police absolutely should be attempting to stop it.

Innocent in the eyes of the law. In the eyes of our constitutional rights. They never go a trial. Stuff your guilty proclamations au your ass.

No, they were innocent as soon as they started trying to take guns away from police officers and started shooting at them.

If they hadn't been armed when the police entered, they'd still be alive and probably never seen prison time.

Donate to the fundraiser. Your name isn’t on the donor list. I will post to you only one more time after thiis when the cops admit they raided the wrong house and made a mistake. You won’t care even then. I don’t know why you defend the indefensible non knock raid of plains clothing police on the word of a drugged up “police informant”. Do you know what police informants are? Do you have a clue?

Your a cop or married to one. The fact is most cops are as corrupt as criminals. The difference is I can shoot a criminal when breaks into my house.

If it was El Chapo, would you expect the police to knock? How about when Bin Laden's home was raided? Should those that came for him knocked?

Yeah, I care more police being able to do their jobs properly than druggies that resist arrest.

You might as well sign up either Antifa or Black Lives Matter because your mentality is the same -- blame the cops first and defend those that refuse to obey lawful commands.

The police had a right to enter. You want to live? Don't arm yourself and start shooting. Real simple. And, you'd agree with the two killed were black.

By the way. In NY they are abortion 9 month old babies. Police will protect that right in that state. Virginia will be next. I saaaume assume you are ok with that also. No nock home invasions, police gun confiscation, protection to murder of children. When does it cross your line? Ever? The paycheck?

No one ever lived a perfect life on this planet but one. Your fighting that with the blue do no wrong. Really.

I sin. Every day. Do I deserve my door kicked in. Shotgun blazing. Don’t forget to call evil evil. Godly godly.

I am neither. I’m failed but damned if I will call evil good. I did not say they were good - I just don’t think our constitutional rights suppory this premise of breaking and entering and killing in the name of your descriptions of reightiosnesss.

Btw - I can’t spell well because my glasses are in the other room and your not wort getting up,

Still don’t see your name on the FR donation page. If I could ban someone with a donation, it would be you. How much Mods?
