Senate Democrats blocked a White House backed-plan to end the 34-day partial shutdown, turning it down in a 51-47 vote on Thursday.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) joined with Republicans to advance the measure, but it fell short of the 60 votes needed to defeat a filibuster.
In an unexpected development, Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) voted against Trump's plan. Lee is considered a fiscal hawk and Cotton is one of the Senates most conservative members on immigration.
The Senate is expected to hold a second vote Thursday on a continuing resolution (CR) that would fund the quarter of the government currently closed until Feb. 8. That bill is also expected to fail, though a few Republicans have said they will support it.

Soylent Green New Deal.
The government has use of the money while holding it back for later payment.
But we had control of the house and senate after 2016 and nothing was done about the wall. Seems like that would have been a good time to address this. Now it’s an up hill battle. I am just generally frustrated with our government.
[ a “brain drain” of all the valuable government workers ]
Oh no! We might lose Maxine Waters and Al Green???!!!
END THE SHUTDOWN NOW!!!
No, wait....
KEEP THE SHUTDOWN GOING!!!
Interesting scenario. Good comment.
And on the Democrat bill for unconditional funding...
“A plan supported by Democrats fared better, but still fell short in a 52-44 vote. Six Republican senators supported it: Lamar Alexander of Tennessee, Susan Collins of Maine, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Johnny Isakson of Georgia, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah. “
This toilet scum must be scraped and flushed.
No one is under political pressure to make a deal.

They’re all getting their paychecks. No pressure on them.
Thanks
I stated “all snark aside”.....meaning I wished to carry on an intelligent discussion. Please don’t post imbecilic comments to me.
Lucky thing we have the senate.
Pool has been called to gather. No explanation given.
Stay tuned
(Sadly, Roberts is now the swing vote.)

He’s a swing vote alright. You can count on him to swing to the other side.
That thought has crossed me mind as well.
Senate also blocked the democrat bill. None came close to 67 votes.
Too,the Never Trumpers are doing whatever they can to undermine Trump with what little time remains.

Yeah, it’s disgraceful. Fickle Ann Coulter and her ilk are the worst of the lot. They’re like little kids complaining because they don’t everything they want NOW. They have no conception of the steps that have to be taken first to ensure a positive outcome.
