Next time there’s a viral story, I’ll wait for more facts to emerge.

If the Covington Catholic incident was a test, it’s one I failed—along with most others. Will we learn from it, or will we continue to roam social media, looking for the next outrage fix? Next time a story like this surfaces, I’ll try to sit it out until more facts have emerged. I’ll remind myself that the truth is sometimes unknowable, and I’ll stick to discussing the news with people I know in real life, instead of with strangers whom I’ve never met. I’ll get my news from legitimate journalists instead of from an online mob for whom Saturday-morning indignation is just another form of entertainment. And above all, I’ll try to take the advice I give my kids daily: Put the phone down and go do something productive.

Here's my suggestion: Do your own investigation of the facts and then report what you find in the end. It's called journalism. IOW, try doing your job for a change instead of passing on lies from some other lying "news" source.

Either that or don't report on something you know nothing about. Period.

There was a time when that's what reporters did. They went out from behind their desks and their computers and found out what was really going out in the real world.

We're too far past that nowadays. Everybody sits in their cozy little offices and checks out Facebook and Instagram and Twitter or watches some cable news network and just passes on information they have no idea whether it's factual or true or not.

No wonder people don't trust the liberal media anymore. They are an embarrassment to American excellence by diving down into the gutters of gossip, fake news, false reporting, manipulated videos and made-up stories as their "sources".

Not just fake news but garbage news. Until the media gets out of the back pockets of the democRAT party's britches and start standing up for the truth again, they will never be credible or respected.

Don't let them off the hook that easily. You can always tell whose side an observer of a football game is on by watching his reaction to a close call. If there is a question about crossing a line, or making contact, or some other judgment, a true fan will always side with his own team.

Such is true with the media. They will side with "their own team", in this case, the "anti-MAGA" team. For the record, I passed - I didn't fall for the media drumbeat (so to speak).
