Democrats and the mainstream media ^{are joined at the hip and} have also made a habit of downplaying any good news about ^{American society in general, and} the U.S. economy ^{in particular.}

No news is good news, because good news “isn’t news.” That means that journalism mentions only the defects in society which it can see (or gin up). This creates a negative propaganda “wind” against society and, ineluctably, in favor of big government. There has to be a political party exploiting that propaganda, and the Democrats don’t have any principle which would keep them from doing it. Republicans do, although they often find it possible to transcend that.
