Democrats and the mainstream media are joined at the hip and have also made a habit of downplaying any good news about American society in general, and the U.S. economy in particular.
No news is good news, because good news “isn’t news.” That means that journalism mentions only the defects in society which it can see (or gin up). This creates a negative propaganda “wind” against society and, ineluctably, in favor of big government. There has to be a political party exploiting that propaganda, and the Democrats don’t have any principle which would keep them from doing it. Republicans do, although they often find it possible to transcend that.
