THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
HARRY WARREN
SEPARATE TABLES
This tune opened the classic film of 1958. Harry was being sidelined to work on songs intended to push movies.
Vic Damone: Separate Tables
Like Irving Berlin, Harry Warren continued to write songs through the Sixties and Seventies with no one taking interest in his work. Music had changed, and he couldnt adapt. Harry had saved his money, so he wanted for nothing, but he languished in obscurity until his death in 1981 at age 88. In addition to his songs, he left behind a collection of short piano pieces and a Catholic mass which has been performed but never recorded. On his tombstone are the opening notes of Youll Never Know.
This is an interview from Nats show in the Fifties.
Harry Warren interview with Nat King Cole and Lullaby of Broadway
This is from 1972 when Harry was 79.
Harry Warren interview with Ian Whitcomb
Tune in tomorrow night as we begin the story of Harold Arlen on the Great American Songbook.

Indeed. Some of todays music just shrieks violence and nastiness. No wonder kids are so mean.

It’s silly to name blizzards. They are just soooo over-dramatic!
We’re supposed to get really cold tomorrow into tomorrow night, but I doubt if there is any snow involved. I hate this dryness. My skin feels like sandpaper! Ugh

It sure is silly. They started this crap when they dove headlong into the glo-bull warming BS.
It’s a cold front coming down, which happens every flippin’ winter.
Looks like it isn’t going to dip down too far. Our forecast for next weekend calls for highs in the 50s.
We’re grateful for the clouds tonight. It’s 41 degrees now and this time last night we were looking at 28 degrees. HEAT WAVE!
I feel for ya dealing with the dryness. Do you have trouble getting zapped constantly by static electricity? It eats me up when it’s cold and dry.

You’re welcome. Been a while since I whipped out purdy ‘woohoos’.
I wasn’t even paying attention until I ran out of the tunes I’d lined up. LOL

Yes, it does zap me and Grey hates it when I’m petting her and she touches my hand with her nose and it zaps her. LOL! Then she goes all shy for a while.
A hurricane guy I follow said that there are no real strong dips in the west to east weather patterns so that’s why we down here haven’t gotten any really frigid nasty stuff. I know it’s cold where you are, but it could be WAY worse. LOL! I’m sure that’s scant consolation when you have to keep your socks and shoes on, though. :)
