MANAMA/BahrainThe Trump administration, via Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, is beginning to build a coalition of Arab allies that will help the United States expel "every last Iranian boot" from Syria and ensure the Islamic Republic's march across the Middle East is stopped in its tracks, according to U.S. officials.
Pompeo arrived in Bahrain early Friday to hold the first of a series of meetings with Arab leaders in key gulf nations, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman. During this leg of Pompeo's weeklong trek across the region, the secretary of state will continue his behind-the-scenes efforts to rally Arab nations to ]confront Iran, according to updated information provided to the Washington Free Beacon by the State Department.
During private meetings with Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in his palace, Pompeo sought to obtain the country's support for a growing U.S.-Arab coalition aimed at "countering the Iranian regime's dangerous activities," according to the State Department, which previewed the second-half of Pompeo's trip to reporters here Friday afternoon.
The Trump administration is singularly focused on the Iranian threat and has blasted the rogue regime's malign activities in meetings and appearances both public/private since Pompeo arrived in the Middle East earlier this week.
U.S. officials accompanying Pompeo worked overtime to ensure Iran remained the center of attention during his visit amid much regional unease over the administration's decision to withdraw all 2,000 American forces from Syria, where the fight against ISIS is ongoing.
Questions about the administration's decision were given short shrift by Pompeo, who appeared more eager to discuss his effort to build a region-wide Arab coalition to counter Iran.
That agenda was driven home on Friday in Bahrain, as Pompeo met with the country's leaders and received a classified briefing from U.S. Central Command, which has a headquarters in Manama.

If you want to keep the Iranians out of Syria, then we probably need to keep troops at the base in al-Tanf. With the US gone, Iran will more easily be able to transfer sophisticated weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon, and to deploy its own forces and weapons against Israel from Syria.
Iranians aren’t Arabs. They’re Persians and at one time Persia was one of the largest, if not, THE largest civilization in history. This is what they’d like to re-create.
Yes that is true, that is why the Syrian apologists on Twitter are always complaining about it. Iran talking through Assad. And Russia pretending to mediate for Kurds.
It is the Middle East.
Probably depends upon which unit (Quds, IRG, foreign Jihadi’s) and the time of year. They do have winter at times.
It is the “way” of the media. It is all about the agenda, supporting the ComDem agenda.
Iran is on the verge of an internal war.
All you stated is true, but yes it is a complex brew.
new America?
All you said is true.
Saudi’s and US have an old history. Saudi’s and Turkey have an extremely bitter past. With enough reasons to make it a fight to the death.
US and Israel are forever bonded. No matter what the Left says, it is so.
With the US out of Syria, it will still not be close to 100% Arab forces involved. In fact, the Arab forces already inside Syria are a lot less effective than the Kurds and some of their oid allies. Arabs were the last to the party in the SDF. They have improved though.
SA and UAE do have some very good soldiers too. The elite of their units have a reputation. Working with Israeli special units? Very effective from what I’ve read.
Well, I hope you are wrong about Kushner.
Remember there were once 400,000 Jews of Kurd ancestry in the mountain region. Most immigrated to Israel.
Erdogan called them a derogatory term, Mountain Jews. He has contempt for them, but Israel knows the Kurds were well.
There are 2 Israeli “diplomats” who follow me on Twitter. Have for a couple of years. I had one way exchange with the first. Later I had a number of 2 way exchanges with the 2nd. They know I support the Syrian Kurds and I made it clear that I support Israel too.
Some of the Israeli Politicians (particularly the leftist) openly champion the Kurds in Syria. I might be able to look back in my notes and tell you the name of at least one of those Israeli Politicians.
Israel made open endorsement of endorsing the KRG in Iraq. Erdogan the Islamist blew a headgasket over that. I read that Israel landed jets there and offered to provide planes and training for the KRG if they would help them.
The is the Middle East. All sides keep score and watch with long perspective.
Yes, the MN. Headshake
The only magic he has is from Satan.
