In the long run, history will validate Donald Trumps stand on a border wall to defend the sovereignty and security of the United States.
Why? Because mass migration from the global South, not climate change, is the real existential crisis of the West.
The American people know this, and even the elites sense it.
Think not? Well, check out the leading liberal newspapers Thursday.
The Washington Post and the New York Times each had two front-page stories about the presidents battle with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer on funding the border wall.
Inside the first section, the Post had more stories, including one describing walls in history from Chinas Great Wall to the Berlin Wall to the Israeli West Bank wall to the wall separating Hungary from Serbia.
Inside the Times was a story on a new anti-immigration party, Vox, surging in Andalusia in Spain, and a story about African migrants being welcomed in Malta after being denied entry into Europe.
Another Times story related how the new president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has pulled out of a U.N. pact on migration, declaring, Brazil has a sovereign right to decide whether or not it accepts immigrants.
Half the columns on the op-ed pages of the papers dealt with Trump, immigration and the wall. And there was nothing significant in either on the Democrats hot new issue, a Green New Deal.

Buchanan is correct. For two years the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and never gave Trump a dime for new wall construction. It ain’t gonna happen folks. He needs to use the military.
Declaratory Judgment is absolutely the way to go, and I’m very surprised the Trump admin has not done more of it.
There are Federal Judges in Texas and other locales that see the world exactly as POTUS does.
The beauty of such a judgement is it’s binding on all parties and forces any appeal through the district in which it originated.
“Make them cave.”
I agree wholeheartedly.
And cave they will if POTUS stands tough.
I would MUCH rather see a political victory. It’s the most pleasurable kind.
That said, SoE declaration is a nice ace to have in the hole.
Oh, and anyone who thinks Buchanan is an idiot is not very educated and/or aware.
I was extraordinarily blessed to clerk for the most conservative and prolific law school professor for over two years. It was he who emphasized that it was a relatively unknown and/or under used provision of law. Maybe because lawyers like ongoing litigation rather than principled lawyering? Nah.
I have wondered why Prez’s lawyers not done it previously, but maybe above is partial answer?
Agree, dumb idea. Think big picture.
Much better for Trump to drag this kicking and screaming thru Congress than to do it himself.
Electoral implications are stronger for GOP if he does not exercise his option to build it himself.
Nope
