Trump administration officials are considering cancelling the president's visit to the World Economic Forum in Davos as the shutdown continues, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
The conference begins on Jan. 22 in Switzerland, and Trump reportedly will not attend unless the government is reopened by then.
The White House did not immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment on the trip's potential cancellation.
The Journal reports that even if the government remains shut down, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin will still attend the event, although the U.S. delegation will likely be restricted.
Trump attended the forum in the Swiss Alps last year, becoming just the second U.S. president to do so while in office. The U.S. typically sends a delegation of high-ranking officials regardless of presidential attendance.
The White House pushed back against criticism last year that the forum is a gathering for wealthy elites, arguing that it was an opportunity to tout American economic policies.
The government has been partially shut down since Dec. 22 due to an impasse over funding for a wall along the border with Mexico, which Trump repeatedly promised during the campaign.
