Why, Despite Media Fake News, Rep. Rashida Tlaib Didn't Want to Use Jefferson's Koran
Frontpage ^ | January 6, 2019 | Daniel Greenfield

Rep. Rashida Tlaib appears to have allowed the media to think that the radical Muslim would be sworn in to office on a copy of "Thomas Jefferson's Koran".

The media had previously found Thomas Jefferson's Koran to be a very useful propaganda stunt for making it appear that Islam is as America as... Thomas Jefferson.

But then Rep. Rashida Tlaib announced that she hadn't actually used Jefferson's Koran, but an actual Koran. Despite her announcement, many media outlets didn't bother correcting their fake news. But that's typical of the media, which acts as the communications arm for the most radical Democrat elements, without ever caring about truth or the facts.

It's not surprising that Rashida Tlaib chose to opt out of Jefferson's Koran. While it's a great publicity stunt, Rashida Tlaib realized that she could gain the benefits of the propaganda, without actually having to soil her religion by using a book that no good Muslim would touch.

There are two problems with Jefferson's Koran.

1. It was owned by an infidel. That's a lesser problem.

2. Its translation is quite blasphemous.

Jefferson wasn't reading the Koran in the original Arabic. His Koran was translated by George Sale in the 18th century. It contains his commentary and notes, some flattering, some rather less so.

Sale's opening lines describe the Koran as a "manifest forgery". He describes Mohammedanism as a "human invention" that was mostly propagated by the sword.

Technically, it is not a Koran if it is not written Arabic.

True. I went to a Catholic college and had to take one year of an alternative religion and I choose Islam.

They were quick to acknowledge that since it was a translation it could not be 100% accurate. It was close enough to prove to me {and most of the class} that islam was not really a religion, but more a political way of life.

Was John Randolph’s Koran any different? Some moderns have argued he was Islamic because he owned a Koran.

The Barbary Pirates gave the USA, and him, a lot of headaches alright.

But anyhow, the bible doesn’t need editing — it needs understanding.

I don't think Randolph actually was a Muslim. In his youth, he did have a fascination with Islam because he thought Christianity was for weaklings. He wasn't a very big fan of humility. But there's no evidence that he acted on his interest in Islam, and in later life he was considered a Christian.

A quote from him might be useful in other ways:

Sir we live under a government of a peculiar structure to which the doctrines of the European writers on civil polity do not apply, and when gentlemen get up and quote Vattel as applicable to the powers of the Constitution of the United States I should as soon have expected them to quote Aristotle or the Koran. Our Government is not like the consolidated monarchies of the old world.

Not a fan of Vattel.

The actual oath is taken on the House floor, and I don’t think any photos are allowed. The photos seen are staged later. Kabuki for the rubes.

Combination of being sarcastic and predicting what the revisionist history taqiyya would be. Having lived amongst barking moonbat liberals, I have found them to be so predictable.

Thanks for the background information. I did not know the full details regarding Jefferson's Koran.
There are a scanned versions of George Sale's Koran translation at the Internet archive. and Project Gutenberg.
