Hundreds of protesters gathered Monday in Pittsburgh's Downtown to rally against proposed restrictions on guns and ammunition.
The bills would ban semi-automatic rifles and certain ammunition and firearms accessories within city limits.
The crowd carried signs, waived flags and had rifles slung across their shoulders. They chanted "USA" and "We will not comply" and cheered the police officers and other public safety officials monitoring the rally.
State Rep. Aaron Bernstine, R-Ellwood City, called the proposed gun legislation a "clear violation" of law by the mayor and "political stunts" by the District Attorney.
"Don't go after the Constitution," Bernstine said. "Go after the criminals."
Pittsburgh City Council introduced the ordinances last month in wake of a mass shooting on Oct. 27 at Squirrel Hill's Tree of Life synagogue, where 11 worshippers were killed.
The proposed ban drew immediate outcry from gun rights activists who contend the restrictions violate Pennsylvania law. State law prohibits municipalities from regulating firearms. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has upheld the preemption in multiple cases, including a 10-year-old city ordinance that would require the reporting of lost or stolen handguns.
Pittsburgh police have never enforced the ordinance because of the preemption.
Justin Dillon, 32, of Erie organized the rally in front of the City-County Building. Dillon is the founder of the advocacy group Open Carry Pennsylvania. He said he expects as many as 1,000 people and many of them including himself would be legally armed.
"We're coming together to say that what they're trying to propose is not right," Dillon has said. "It's against the law."

It is not going to go down quietly.
This year is starting off great!
Pittsburgh's Democrat city government would be wise to ponder PA's favorite winter pastime.
Who’d a thought,,,
Good Job,
Send a Message!
Nor should it. Millions of our servicemen have died defending our rights and freedoms. The fact that one idiot killed 11 people in a synagogue does not usurp the deaths of millions of freedom defenders and the rights of our citizens.
A mass killing is what happens in a war for freedom or on 9-11, not what happens in Pittsburgh, etc.
“THIS IS WHAT
DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE!”
Good, the fight back is continuing, it’s a never ending war for our freedoms.
Pittsburgh is a Democrap stronghold.
For the life of me, I don’t understand why!
.
Remember the “Bonus Army?”
This will not end well for them.
Do you know what percent of Pittsburgh households are “union” today?
Hell, I used to work at J&L Eliza Blast Furnace. I was “union” but I got over it.
Today, I despise Democraps and all who support them.
If the bonus army had actually organized itself into a real Army, that is, had a command structure and enforced discipline it could have gone the other way.
Being a lifelong resident of Western Pa, I can confidently tell anyone that gun control doesn’t go over in this neck of the woods. Down East maybe, but not here.
local gun control ordinances are illegal under Pennsylvania state law ...
Also under the Pennsylvania constitution.
I had relatives in western PA who worked in the mills in Pittsburgh; relatives in east Ohio who worked in potteries & refractories. Like you said, their world was the Catholic Church, VFW, Eagles & Elks, P-TA, even ethnic groups like SNPJ. It was a stable, secure world of fixed & shared values.
But they were leery of unions, which meant closed shops, coerced dues, and union bosses who rode around in Cadillacs. Grandpa was a miner; he couldn’t stand John L. Lewis. But during the Depression, mine owners allowed laid off miners to dig their own coal to heat their homes.
All that is gone with the wind. Even the unions are ghosts of what they once were.
From Pennsylvanias Constitution:
Section 21 The right to bear arms:
The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
Pro-gun open carry protest events in Hartford CT did nothing to stop the passage of new anti-gun laws after Sandy Hook.
Yellow Vest & Open Carry are a great mix.
Imprison the District Attorney because Gun Control KILLS!
