President Trump’s 2020 campaign manager on Tuesday fired back after Sen.-elect Mitt Romney (R-Utah) wrote a searing op-ed criticizing the president's character.
In a tweet, Trump's 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale invoked Romney’s failed 2012 presidential bid, accusing the incoming senator of lacking the ability "to save this nation."
“The truth is @MittRomney lacked the ability to save this nation. @realDonaldTrump has saved it,” Parscale wrote on Twitter. “Jealously is a drink best served warm and Romney just proved it. So sad, I wish everyone had the courage @realDonaldTrump had.”
Parscale’s reaction came shortly after Romney penned a Washington Post op-ed slamming Trump’s character and his time in office.
"With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring," Romney wrote.
Romney, who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, spoke out against Trump during the 2016 election.
“It is well known that Donald Trump was not my choice for the Republican presidential nomination,” Romney wrote. “After he became the nominee, I hoped his campaign would refrain from resentment and name-calling. It did not. When he won the election, I hoped he would rise to the occasion.”
After two years in office, Romney wrote that Trump had not “risen to the mantle of the office.”
Romney’s remarks came two days before he will be sworn into Senate on Thursday.
“I do not intend to comment on every tweet or fault,” he wrote. “But I will speak out against significant statements or actions that are divisive, racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, dishonest or destructive to democratic institutions.”

Frustrating that people as conservative as the people in Utah voted in a self serving establishment lackey like Romney who has done nothing but disrespect Trump and the choice of Trump for years now.
Utah conservatives Trump supporters should be assigned the specific task of straightening out Romney and ultimately replacing him with someone with moreof a backbone who is less status quo.

Flake and Corker had the choice to either retire or lose. Sasse hasn't decided if he will run for reelection in 2020, which means he knows he can't win unless something changes. That's a primary we should have no problem winning as long as there's a decent challenger that Trump endorses.
Lindsey Graham needs to go in 2020 as well, but I'm worried his strategy will be effective. He's no better than the others. He doesn't support the MAGA agenda, but he's smart enough to know he needs to create an image that he's one of Trump biggest allies on most issues, when in reality he's not an ally on the issues Trump campaigned on. A lot of people talk about Trump keeping his friends close, and his enemies even closer, but from everything we've seen, it appears to be the establishment that's using that strategy against Trump instead. Guys like Lindsey Graham will be in for a serious challenge if they have to face a Trump backed challenger, but it seems more likely that Graham will be able to play Trump into staying on the sidelines, or even endorsing him. I think Trump would likely come to regret it.
This is one of Trumps biggest weaknesses. He's a smart man, but he doesn't have the decades of experience in manipulation like theses career politicians in the establishment. All they do is lie and manipulate voters while working against them. Trump understands that, but he can be fooled just like we all can. It's hard to trust a lot of republicans, because most of what we have to go own is based primarily on talk, and little in terms of results. Some are sincere, but have limited power, while others just use that narrative as an excuse for failing in a fight they never planned on winning. Graham is not one of those who's real motives are unknown. He's a solid anti-MAGA RINO, and Trump shouldn't fall for his tricks. TRUMP 2020!!! MAGA!!!

If Romney loved our country, and desired to defend our liberty, he would be out there going to battle to support Trump’s efforts and policy, to keep America from being forceably subjugated to a new sovereign global socialist government!
