A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) employee says she was unable to get her family as much for Christmas as she typically does because of the ongoing partial government shutdown.
"My son made a comment where he said Santa didn't give us as much as he did last year, and that was heartbreaking," the unidentified employee told Buzzfeed News.
"We try to not be materialistic with our kids, but it kind of hurt that he noticed," she added.
The employee added that her husband is also a federal employee and said they aren't sure when they will again receive paychecks.

But, I bet that doesn't count.
Bollocks. The shutdown started on Saturday and on the weekends the government shuts down. Monday was Christmas Eve - a holiday. Christmas Tuesday - a holiday. When did they decide not to buy presents for their child? Sunday or Monday, a day or two before Christmas? One of my parents works for DHS and has to work on Monday. What shutdown???
“The employee added that her husband is also a federal employee...”

1/ Name the source of the comment, please. Otherwise, it seems as if you pulled the quote out of your a$$.
2/ Try planning your finances a bit better, jerk.
3/ What a joke - the government is always shut down this time of year.
Fake news. No name given.
Uh huh. Sure.
There's no longer any semblance at all of even a minor smidgen of responsibility left in journalism.
Boo friggen hoo. You people are far better off than 90% of the people in this country with your cushy high paying jobs.
Unnamed. No age on children. Bit sounds spoiled. Husband works for feds but they dont say which dept
Sloppy sob story to try and make Trump look bad
Bs. They were paid through Christmas. Their first missed check will be for 12/31.
It’s a made-up story...I don’t believe the person exists. This practice by journalists is popping up weekly now.
Exactly right.
Stop voting democrat.
Plus, please, if you're waiting until a couple days before Christmas to buy your kids (or grandkids as the previous sob story went on about), you've probably got other financial concerns that are the problem, not a ‘missing’ paycheck.
Worst story I've heard so far about normal people being affected is someone who had reservations for the night tour of Alcatraz Island in SF bay - it was canceled, so they took the day tour instead.
Such hardship, not really noticing that the ‘federal government’ shut down for weeks now.
The media are going to have to do better than the “federal workers are starving!” garbage that started coming out the same day the affair began. Nobody’s buying it. The “shutdown” began on the 22nd of December. Unless Mom and Dad were planning on doing their Christmas shopping at a gas station on Christmas Eve, it’s BS.
I hear they were only able to buy 20-30 presents per child instead of the usual 50+.
