We had an ASA base on Shemya.
The standing joke was that on Shemya, there was girl behind every tree. (Problem is, there are NO trees).

Reminds me of Thule, Greenland; old timers that had been stationed there told all the young airmen about to get orders, that there was a girl behind every tree.
When I was stationed at Mcclellan AFB, we had a W/U teletype order wire with Shemya and with White Alice. Those guys were on the tip of the spear back then.
