In a bold move to address its affordable-housing crisis and confront a history of racist housing practices, Minneapolis has decided to eliminate single-family zoning, a classification that has long perpetuated segregation.

Reason #775,362 to stay the hell out of Minneapolis. Please do come visit Minnesota. Just don’t go to Minneapolis.
Liberals want to wallow in the past as victims and not look for ways to change the present and the future. Once a victim; always a victim.
Thanks for an excellent reply.
.
This is attack on the bourgeoisie (nuclear family - 2 parents, 2 children).
In California they have an affordable housing crisis because government made owning an older, depreciated home a crime requiring demolition for redevelopment to increase the tax base after Proposition 13. Wiped out all the older, cheap housing stock.
In Minnesota they want to make it a crime to own a single family home.
This was passed in Iowa. In effect it negates any zoning and redefines family. Family is now anything we want it to be.
City of Ames counters this with no new rental property applications, restriction on new parking and a rental limit is number of bedrooms plus one of occupancy.
I should add this was passed with the lobbying support of homos and real estate industry.
within a decade, the entire middle-class will have fled, leaving Minneapolis a hollowed out city like Detroit ...
“The price of single family home just went through the roof.”
wrong. withing a decade the taxpaying middle-class will have fled, leaving Minneapolis a bombed-out city like Detroit where abandoned houses can’t be sold for even a dollar each because the new zoning is retroactive to ALL existing neighborhoods!
And yet, if I recall correctly, Tonka trucks (you trucks for kids from yesteryear), originated not in Minnetonka, but Mound (which is also on Lake Minnetonka)...
Good post, nice to know others have class.
Early Genesis is still some of my favorite.
Improper and politically motivated zoning created the problems...some zoning is good and necessary.
I believe they headed to Mexico many years ago.
Thanks. Maybe I’m just old :)
Pruitt-Igoe.
(Dynamited).
No such thing as ‘good zoning’
Its like saying some communism is good and necessary
If Minnesota is facing the same problems as NJ with a gibsmedat population, then it is not to outlaw single-family homes - it is to force the owners of them to shoulder the costs of the public services provided to non-contributors/takers. Here in northeastern NJ they are forcing any new constructions (primarily multi-family hives for workers with one child at most) to include a low-income segment - and that is to spread the takers from the cities in which they are concentrated. Each municipality pays its own school and emergency services costs, and there is no way the urban sh!tholes can collect the taxes to do so - so their residents are just scattered to the neighborhoods of makers to foot those bills (destroying neighborhoods in the process).
Trump was right when he asked why people from successful countries don’t come here; instead we import people who will contribute little at best, though usually nothing at all. They know the line pitched to us is that they’ll fund Social Security for retired Americans; instead they fund their own retirements and families south of the border while living on taxpayer dollars here.
I’d rather have zoning laws that protect me from watching my neighborhood turn into a sh!thole populated by people with no skin in the game. While NJ is notorious for its high property taxes, some wealthy people see it as the best defense against seeing their towns fall; non-productive people can’t live there, and there is no space available to build a welfare ranch. Another defense is outlawing overnight parking on the street; if 25 welfarians, braceros, or collies end up on your street, they’ll be sharing one or two cars - all that fits off the street.
In NJ it is easy to push the lie that single-family housing is racist because the cities filled with multi-family dwellings are broke while the areas with single-family homes are a bit better off. If you pointed out that owning (or even renting) a single-family home requires income above bare sustenance level (provided by income from one or two workers), then you’re called a “racist”.
Our urban clusters produce no income to pay for public services & schools, so this sounds like a gimmick to spread the non-contributing consumers to the neighborhoods (and local tax bases) of working, property-taxpaying people.
We lived in an area that had big lots and decent houses,,,zoning prevented trailer parks and such.....it helped protect the value of our properties by encouraging better types of development and construction...else, someone can put up a shanty town in a nice neighborhood and start it on the way to slumsvile....it also keeps pig farms from suburban communities...
Don’t need zoning for that
Pig Farmers are not going to go into a neighborhood and pay 20 grand per 1/4 acres of land, that is stupid. Zoning is not preventing them, the land values are.
Central Planning is a Marxist and Freeper idea I see. I guess Marxism is ok if you believe you see benefit from it.....
