Nearly 20 years ago, former President George H.W. Bush wanted to sponsor a Filipino boy named Timothy through Colorado Springs-based nonprofit Compassion International but first, he needed a pseudonym.
Hes passed away now, so its probably not a classified name anymore it was George Walker, said Wess Stafford, Compassion president emeritus. Thats the same name that he used, apparently, whenever he checked into a hospital and they needed to have it unknown that he was in there.
Bushs security team was worried about Timothys safety, said Stafford. If word had gotten out that the child was communicating with a former U.S. president, he could have been in danger.
Through Compassion International, a sponsor writes letters to a child in addition to providing financial support. Bushs letters were intentionally vague to mask his identity, and all communication between the two of them went through Stafford, who was then president of Compassion.
The first time he started breaking our little security rules was when he sent a picture of his dog, Millie, and he added, This is Millie. Shes met lots of famous people, Stafford said, laughing. And I thought, OK, thats cute, but boy, thats starting to slip some little secrets in there.
And then years later, he wrote, Were going to have Christmas this year with my son at his house. And then he adds, Oh, and he lives in a big, white house. And Im like, Come on, Mr. President. You are really pushing the envelope here.

I’d label the subtext of this story with one word: Guilt.
In light of your comment, I made a discovery among my trove of links.
It links to the free video (rough draft cut) of Conspiracy of Silence (never aired).
The underlying story was doggedly-researched by (now deceased) former Green Beret, Vietnam Veteran, attorney, author and Republican legislator, John DeCamp.
But I’m sure this is not news to you and this ‘feel-good’ story grates me to my core.

Word of caution to the unknowing: The documentary contains testimony which is brutally-explicit, but the facts it outlines are far more shocking. It directly-implicates DC lobbyist Craig Spence who took boys on ‘midnight tours’ of the White House. This documentary, btw, was destroyed by parties unknown with a half-million dollar payoff to the Discovery Channel for their cost of production. Linked is a smuggled copy of the documentary which was never aired, exposing that the media was hostile to the underlying story behind the failure of Nebraska’s Franklin Federal Credit Union. It also exposes corruption of American media (and the FBI, who coerced witnesses into recanting testimony implicating those being investigated). The chief investigator for the Franklin Committee, Gary Caradori, was killed along with his son in a private plane crash. The FBI henceforth confiscated all documents in the investigation, effectively shutting it down. Absent the efforts of John DeCamp, we might never know the details. Over a dozen people mysteriously died related to this investigation, including the brother to the witness who was coerced by the FBI to claim they invented the whole story of the boys. NSFW, but a MUST-WATCH.
One final note: In light of the sealing (burying) of ALL records pertaining to Spence’s ‘DC call-boy network’ investigation, imagine the leverage over those implicated in the files, including the most powerful people in D.C...
John DeCamp: “The Justice Department, acting through FBI and the US Attorney’s office in Omaha emerges from the record of the Franklin investigation not so much as a party to the cover-up, but as its coordinator. Rigging grand juries, harassment of witnesses and incitement to perjury and tampering with evidence, federal personnel were seen to apply ALL those techniques for the Franklin case.”
More likely he’s his love child....pretty sure 41 had an Asian mistress.....so I heard
That's not necessarily true.Focusing on Africa...yes,many,if not most,African nations are led by breathtakingly corrupt men.And yes,at least some charities (particularly ones like UNICEF,UNESCO and OXFAM) are breathtakingly corrupt.
But I've found a charity,a small one I believe,to which I give a few dollars a month. It's run by Catholic nuns and it flies doctors that they have (don't know if the doctors are paid or are volunteers) to remote African villages in several small, single engine planes that they own.
It seems highly unlikely that the nuns are corrupt and, while it's possible that local government officials are shaking them down for $$$,it would appear that at least some of the $$$ that people like me donate is put to genuinely good use.
Maybe I'm naive...but that's my basic attitude.
This is W’s father.
