Today a conservative friend said to me that even if we had a wall, the next Dem president will just open up the gates.

The ‘Cash for Clunkers’ fiasco cost $3 billion.

Elon Musk has received $4.9 billion in taxpayer subsidies.

Apparently, for the same reason they couldn’t do it for the past 2 years, which is partly why they lost the house.

This is why I no longer support tax cuts for the GOP donor class. Nor for the Gentry libs who run the ‘crats.

i thougth Trump said the issue was not having enough senate votes?

Because yesterday Pelosi was saying well the House could at least pass it now, and Trump said why waste time to pass in the house if can’t get 60 in senate?

If the House passes the bill, could next year’s senate (with more R votes) pass it? Might work !

I thought the House had already passed $5 billion for border security and the Senate was only offering $1.3 billion.

there is no way any Senate Dem would vote money for a wall unless Upchuckee made them. No mount of pressure will change that ... as far as the House goes Ryan would stop it getting to the floor and, even if he did allow it without the 10 Dems, it would be pointless like all those bills to kill Ocare the House passed.

The short answer is yes. It would die in the Senate.

Tell Congress that the money is for Iran. They’ll pass it quick.

House Republicans could pass a bill funding the Wall.

But they don’t want to, so they won’t.

The only way the wall gets built is if it happens during his Presidency which may be only two more years — six more if we are lucky. If a dem President follows him they won’t follow through and finish the wall.

So it probably has to be a blitz effort by the military to make it happen. That covers labor but he would still need monies for materials. I don’t see how it gets done. Certainly Trump doesn’t have the votes in Congress for a wall. Hardly anyone except Trump is saying anything about a wall.

A Modest Proposal to ENSURE passage: Trump has his staff inform ALL retiring GOP members that they will be BLACKLISTED from lobbying the Trump Administration — all branches — for the duration of his presidency (2 - 6 years) if they don’t vote to fund The Wall. That would make them all but unemployable by K Street corporate leeches, costing them millions in income.

Dock their pay.

Republicans in the House could probably pass a funding bill for the wall — but not with the likes of Ryan as its leadership. Ryan is open borders and cheap labor and in the pocket of the Chamber of Commerce, the Kochs and others. That’s why nothing has been done for the last two years.

Chart
https://www.statista.com/chart/10146/150-million-people-would-move-to-the-us-if-they-could/

These numbers are now old: “The 150 million people whom Gallup estimated would like to come to the United States includes 22 million Chinese, 15 million Nigerians, 10 million Indians, 8 million Bangladeshis, 7 million Brazilians, 5 million Filipinos, 5 million Japanese, 5 million Mexicans, and 3 million each from Vietnam, Kenya and the United Kingdom.

In Liberia, 37 percent of all adults want to leave their homeland and move permanently to the United States of America. In Sierra Leone, it’s 30 percent. In Dominican Republic, it’s 26 percent. In Haiti, it’s 24 percent. And in Cambodia, it’s 22 percent.”

Would have to be under a reconciliation bill. Not sure if that can be done quickly.
