Please do not grant bail, Canada.

She is rich and will flee the country by boat and private plane.

“Canadian authorities arrested Huawei Technologies Co. finance chief Meng Wanzhou because of U.S. concerns that she fraudulently covered up Huawei’s control of a company called Skycom that was doing business in Iran, a Canadian prosecutor said Friday.

At a bail hearing for Ms. Meng in a Canadian court in Vancouver, John Gibb-Carsley, the Canadian prosecutor, said Ms. Meng misled financial institutions about the connection between Huawei and Skycom at a time when there were sanctions against Iran, saying there was no relationship.

In fact, he said, Huawei and Skycom were the same company. “This is the crux, I say, of the alleged fraud,” Mr. Gibb-Carsley said.

Ms. Meng served on the board of Skycom, a Hong Kong-based firm with business in Iran, from February 2008 to April 2009, Hong Kong corporate records show. “

Ms. Meng, the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, was arrested by Canadian authorities Saturday in Vancouver at the request of the U.S.

Wow, that would be like arresting the daughter of Steve Jobs in China. Its going to get personal.

Its been personal for millions of Americans who lost jobs/wages due to Chinese theft of IP and piracy.

That’s the charge? Deceiving banks?

Hell, if that’s it then they need to lock-up practically every other CEO along with her.

No doubt about that, either.

Trust me. The US government would probably like to avoid this trial. It wouldn’t surprise me if Canada wanted to set us up the bomb.
Trump should warn every judge that they better not set a bail amount. She’ll be back in China in a day. Outa sight, outa mind.

Exactly and in the eyes of left tards everywhere that’s a real problem when we defend ourselves let alone fight back

If the United States wants to avoid a trial, then low bail should be encouraged so that she can go back to China. No trial!

How can you enforce a US law on a foreign citizen travelling in a foreign country?

What’s to prevent China from saying baseball caps are illegal and arresting an American tourist in Norway?

I read somewhere this was done simply to sabotage Trump and China.

Violation of international sanctions, not US law. BIG difference.

International law is even more worthless and corrupt. Should Americans be subject to arrest based on “international” law?

So, the Canadians accede to an American request to catch this person, and it’s bad?

I thought the leftists were confusing. FReepers can be even moreso.

Low bail, my butt. We need to bleed her dry. She’ll pay it.

I’m not in sympathy with this person, but what I posted was a way for the United States to avoid a trial, if that is what is desired.

So as I understand this:

The US is claiming it has the right to create a law, that everyone in the world has to follow, and then has the right to require extradition of anyone that they think violates that law. Without that person being a US citizen or on US soil or even committing the crime on US soil.

I have a problem with this. Seems like a huge over reach.

Only if Steve Jobs’ daughter was also a co-chairwoman of Apple and a board member of another company that was used to break break US laws.

It seems she lied to US banks, as a result of which the banks cooperated with Huawei in violating US sanctions. Still, how this gives us legal right to have someone arrested outside the US, I don’t understand. I’d hate to see Americans subjected to similar actions abroad!

I think Americans should be prosecuted for bank fraud by any country with a functioning legal system.

Easy. You make a treaty with a country, agreeing to arrest their criminals in your country, if they'll do the same for you. And the big thing preventing that is China and Norway don't have an extradition treaty.
