“Magic mushrooms” may soon become legal in Oregon, where even powerful politicians seem high — on the idea, according to a report.

The state’s attorney general green-lit language allowing the bill to hit the ballots in 2020, assuming advocates get enough signatures, according to Oregonlive.com

If it passes, the initiative would decriminalize hallucinogenic mushrooms and allow them to be manufactured with a license. Oregon would become the first US state to legalize the drug.

The bill will need 140,000 signatures in order to appear on the ballots in the 2020 general election, the paper reported.

Nationwide, possession of psychedelic mushrooms — and their active compound, psilocybin — is a felony. But advocates say the trippy treat can help boost spirituality, fight depression and even help terminally ill patients cope with death.

“The intent of the 2020 Psilocybin Service Initiative of Oregon is to advance a breakthrough therapeutic model currently being perfected in research settings at top universities around the world,” Tom and Sheri Eckert, who are leading the petition, wrote on the campaign’s website.

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum declined to comment to the paper.

It is best to know which ones are the right ones. A buddy once brought some over for my opinion. They were the wrong ones. He had them in a plastic bag overnight, where they had secreted a hideous black juice pulsating with maggots. I told him they were not the right ones. He agreed, in that he tried them the night before with unsatisfactory results.

I don’t think they grow in deer poop. I was always told it had to be black angus cow poop. We would find grocery bags full at this one field down home on a sunny day after a good rain. Those are, however, not the only mushrooms prevalent in pasture pastries, so know before you go!

Truly remarkable stuff, for many people of high intellegence. That said, if you are the naturally fearful , weak-willed type (i.e., a believer in “demonic possesion” nonsense), you probably want to avoid the stuff. You will definitely have a bad trip. Think it was Christmas Break from SIU, 1970. Went to a party with some pre-college friends. One of them was doing some Blue Dot acid, (Paper with a blue ink dot on it, and a drop of Whothehellknows.) "Purple bricks melting..." is a direct quote, with a weird look, as he drooled. I have that kind of memory.

Heard, later, that he tried to ride his brand new Kawasaki, stoned. Head on into a brick wall.

He wasn't missed.

I've learned that when I encounter this behavior on FR I just picture my crazy old uncle who has absolutely nothing to do, no memory to speak of, and mostly incapacitated clacking away on a keyboard (instead of sitting in the corner mumbling to himself).
