Scary: What would happen if a hostile foreign power could harness the technology to be able to produce high-quality audio and video of people saying things they never said or doing things they have never done? What kind of an impact could that have on, say, our democratic and electoral processes?
It would be devastating and could perhaps even destroy the tenuous civil society that remains after years of Democrats attempting to sow distrust in our systems by claiming elections were stolen either by Russians or sinister Republicans.
And yet, thanks to artificial intelligence, the day when an adversary can create such false scenarios using so-called deep fakes technology are fast approaching, the Washington Times reported Sunday.

I’m sure this will be the excuse offered if and when video tapes of prominent persons (read: Hillary) become public — “It’s the Russians!”
This is why you need a population who believes in right -vs- wrong.
Whether it’s the Bible or the Torah or Buddah you believe in, most major religions teach right from wrong.
This situation is worsened when you have a few billion people who believe in a man who said an angel squoze a hot steaming pile of kuran out of him.
What electoral process? It’s so corrupt now as to be useless.
Well how about instead of Rs bitching about something ELSE now as a reason to lose and crying like little faggots,
they use it first or hit back twice as hard if it happens?
“because we’re not like that. We’re better than that”
Let that be a @#$#$ing comfort to you when the country left behind for your children or grandchildren is a worthless heap
Well said.
Are they talking about those BAD LIP READING videos on YOUTUBE ?
There is only one dirty, unforgivable word left in the English language. If a Republican can be made to appear to use that word, he/she is done. A Democrat can use that word on national TV - we have seen it - and nothing happens.
So yes, that mischief will happen.
Who needs artificial intelligence when illegals can vote plus vote by mail no ID required.
Been done already.
It’s already possible.
I think this is mostly pre-damage control, so when videos like Hillary the Bobblehead or Hillary being tossed into her ambulance-van come out they can just say they’re high-tech fakes.
But do they really want to go down that path? Think “Access Hollywood tape”... both sides can play that game.
And if it truly becomes impossible to tell what’s fake and what’s real, how will they get THEIR message out? Maybe all that will be trustworthy will be in-person events like rallies. Trump wins.
No politician cares whether or not citizens believe in the electorial process as it stands today...so long as they just go to the polls like good sheep.
Full Disclosure......Unfortunately, I am one of those sheep
Neither political party gives a damn!

Gee.
Thanks. Your answer caught me by surprise.
I was expecting replies like “we are not gonna sink to their level so take your crooked antics to another board!”
That’s what I used to get :)
I guess folks are getting fed up.
Pop wouldn’t have approved but A. Pop’s not around to see what our country has become and B. When he WAS around, it will still a country where the word honor meant something to even a FEW dems, at least.
Nope! A computer generated video clip, indistinguishable at first glance from a legitimate recording of a person. Something that can pop-up on YouTube and be discredited 24 hours later, after the damage is done. Perhaps an electioneering ploy news leak released a day before an election.
