The PLA has been striving to take and own ocean routes for a long time.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finished excavating and built the Panama Canal.

The Torrijos/Carter Treaty, guarantees free international transit AND reserves Washington the right to intervene if that freedom is threatened...we’ve already stopped several of China’s proposed projeccts there.

China’s plan of course is to extend their New Silk Road project to Latin America....The very possibilities of the port terminals managed by the Chinese and adjacent to the interoceanic canal to become part of the so-called ‘pearl necklace’ (ports operated by China on strategic routes to facilitate stopovers of its fleet) has also been cited by the ‘Wall Street’ Journal ‘in its publication’ Navy Faces Global Chinese Maritime Threat ‘.

China is the second user of the Panama Canal, after the United States, and the largest supplier of goods in the Panamanian free zone, which is the largest in Latin America and the second in the world.

Well there’s no doubt that China’s intentions are to establish itself as the dominant player in Panama’s economy ‘AND’ government. We know that through these positions they can and likely will advance their strategic interests throughout the region.

China operates in secrecy with a lot of their agenda....they hide the details of their negotiations and dealings from the US and even Panama;s President fails to let his own government know of the deals he’s making. All contracts go through Panama’s office of the President.....so this has created a situation in which China (which has reportedly had surprising access to a broad range of Panamanian government officials and their organizations), may have gained significant insight into the detailed situation and vulnerabilities of Panama’s ministries and commercial partners....as has been reported.

Now the 3rd round of those negotiations likely were concluded before this weeks visit of Xi or he would not be going there.

China’s Railway Group is ‘quietly’ conducting studies for the construction of a $5.5 billion train from Panama City to David,.. to be paid for by the Panamanian government and built by Chinese companies.

They’re doing exactly what they did in other Countries....building or obtaining control of ports for their Naval fleet.......The construction firm China Harbor is to build a port ‘for cruise ships’ on the Amador peninsula, on the Pacific side of the canal. .....but there are no significant cruise ship destinations on the Pacific side of the continent to justify the government’s investment to position Panama as a Port of Call.

It’s very interesting that China is the only country on the UN Security Council NOT to have signed the treaty committing to the neutrality of the canal.

Carter gave up the canal.

Americans didn’t forgive or forget. Stunning disaster almost as evil as opening trade with China.

When Carter gave away the canal, I remember saying at the time that I expected I would see in my lifetime American blood shed to take it back.

If Congress forces the US to stop giving military aid to the Saudis in their fight with the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen, then there is a very real possibility that Iran will control the Red Sea to the Suez Canal access 9with a hostile to the US Al Shahab controlled Somalia directly across from Yemen.

Way to go Republican aholes and Democrat traitors. Another betrayal. Wasn’t the betrayal of the Cuban exiles at The Bay of Pigs enough?

Wasn’t the betrayal and abandonment of our allies in Southeast Asia and the resulting genocide enough?

Wasn’t the Iran nuclear agreement treason by Obama enough?

Soon we’ll run out of friends to betray. Then we will look around and see that we are all along. Start learning Russian and Chinese folks.
