Three years ago, world leaders from nearly every country around the world laid out specific plans to fight climate change that included strategies to slash their greenhouse gas emissions. Those commitments generated optimism that the world might finally address global warming and helped seal the deal on the Paris Agreement.
Now, the majority of G20 countries arent following through on their promises, according to a new report from the United Nation Environment Programme. And, even if countries followed through, the world would fall short of limiting temperature rise to safe levels.
The backsliding is largely the result of increased economic growth in 2017, as GDP growth typically correlates with increased CO2 emissions. That trend was temporarily broken between 2014 and 2016 when emissions stabilized, and in the U.S. emissions actually declined last year even as the economy roared.
Beyond economic growth the global fight against climate change has encountered a slew of political challenges since 2015 [like] the election of President Donald Trump, who denies the science of climate change.
Climate scientists and advocates hope that the reports will build momentum ahead of the upcoming UN climate change conference.

I can’t speak for the US, of course. But my personal Climate Goal is for sunny weather with a temperature between 65 and 80 degrees and humidity that never exceeds 50%. Forever.
Climate goals? Oh, they mean globalist warming jackassery. All designed to increase control, regulations, taxes, etc.
Hiroshima gets *nuked* off the map a few decades back, yet the temperature going up 1 or 2 degrees in the next hundreds years will destroy us?
Jackassery!
That’s Phoenix for about the next 5 months :)
Dirty secret, looking at the numbers, if the US continues at the rate of emission drop that it had under the first year of Trump, it will meet or exceed the 2020 and 2025 goals, while the rest of the world raises the total to higher levels. If the reported 2018 numbers hold out, it will exceed those goals. All this without an agreement.
If it started with cities stopping their zoning nuisance rules against tall grass, I would believe it.
But this is about conditioning people tonchange their behavior and makingnthe state flawless despite corrupt
Our main problem this year was letting the idiots manage the forests. californicate fires negated all our efforts for a number of years.

...
Trump denies the corrupt science of climate change.
And I thought we were doing better than the corrupt countries who stayed in the Paris Scam.
Climate goal = BS talking point.
——fight climate change ——
LOL...
Arrogant fools think climate is something we can effect...
Same thing for “Save the planet” nonsense.
How do we save the planet?
LOL! Good luck with that in South Carolina.
Wait a minute... If it comes true, can you send some of that to Alabama?
Please?
Completely wrong.
We have NO Goals on climate change.
Thus we are meeting our goals of not doing anything about it.
Climate Never Changes.
Or Static Climate.
They had an Idiot on BBC saying you must Ban all Gas/Diesel cars NOW to save the World and use Electric cars ,but he never said where the Electricity would come from when they close down all the Coal fired plants ,LOL
That’s a great idea. Thanks :)
Sure. Always willing to share with an Alabama bud.
The entire premise of the article has nothing to do with actual things countries have done, but rather whether they have plans that show them meeting future targets.
The U.S. is actually on target right now.
A funny graphic actually shows also how, when you take into account our forests, we actually have a negative C02 output.
The US doesn’t have any commitments. We withdrew from the Paris Agreement. The other hypocrites who whined incessantly about us withdrawing however do have commitments which they’re not living up to.
