Germany, a country of 82 million, welcomed from 800,000 to over one million migrants and unvetted “refugees” in 2015.
Mrs Merkel, who last month announced she was controversially stepping down as leader of her party but not as Chancellor of Germany despite previously saying the two roles go hand in glove, said ceding power to a superstate is a better form of patriotism.
She told the event, titled ‘Parliamentarianism Between Globalisation and National Sovereignty’: “In this day nation states must today – should today, I say – be ready to give up sovereignty.
“But of course in an orderly procedure.”
Mrs Merkel said that countries who think “they can solve everything on their own” are simply nationalistic and not patriotic because they “only think about themselves.”
She said: “Either you are one of those who believe they can solve everything on their own and only have to think about themselves. That is nationalism in its purest form.
“This is not patriotism. Because patriotism is if you include others in the German interest and accept win-win situations.”

how did this woman get in a position of power in her country with such views....Germans are some of the proudest people in the world..
They haven’t been since the 70’s.
That’s when most of the older generation were either put in old folks homes or were dieing off.
Germans are good at starting wars
But, to whom? Any puffed up entity that comes along and claims it, like the EU or the UN? Or, pan-national Islam? Or, World Communism (less likely at the moment)?
There is no other entity to which THE PEOPLE feel/owe more loyalty, to which they pledge more allegiance (which is the backbone of sovereignty).
I can only guess that Frau Merkel thinks that an old-fashioned concept like "sovereignty" belongs on the ash-heap of history, like belief in the divine right of kings.

Going to was against Germany in these days would be like going to war against Ontario, Canada - only the supply lines would be longer. however, Germany would be overrun before the on-hand supplies were even close to being used up.

Yield sovereignty? To whom? The circus of fools at the UN, dominated by dictators and third world kleptocrats? Merkel presumably is thinking in terms of the EU as the successor to European nation states, which means ceding power to a huge, self-serving, self-perpetuating, anti-democratic bureaucracy. No thanks.
The sooner we withdraw from NATO to defend this continental Western European anti American mindset the better. They have nothing to offer us in the way of defense and if they want the nuclear umbrella we provide them that cost us untold billions to develop they should pay us 5 per cent of their gdp annually for it or go pound sand, forget the 2 percent they agreed to contribute to their military defense which they don’t pay anyway. Time to cut them loose

I will never understand why every few decades people start trusting Germans again... How many wars, how much blood spilled before we start weighing every word out of German leader’s mouths?

I’m patiently awaiting the day that open season is declared on these vermin. Their fatality count will exceed what anyone has ever imagined. I’m an avowed pacifist myself, nevertheless it will be enjoyable to watch their destruction.

We can all go where ever we want, lets all migrate to Saudi Arabia or Iran, we can change the world. I am sure we will all be welcome as much as people from Zimbabwe would be welcomed in Japan or the Chinese in South Africa or Honduras? Yup great idea, give up your sovereignty eliminate all borders and multiply. We’re doomed as humans anyway, there are too many of us, and we keep making more ignoring the danger of over population. I spent almost 80 yrs on this planet, and saw what it brought, if it continues, I don’t want to be here in the the 80 yrs. I don’t see the rainbows or the unicorns they tell us are there, I keep seeing a dark cloud and the 4 horseman.
