All I mean is that Mauthausen wasn't strictly a camp for extermination. It was slave labor, making, among other things, rifles for Himmler's SS. Himmler was a poultry fancier. And that's how he treated the Jews...like livestock. Produce while you can, and be killed when you no longer produce. Simply a fact of the Holocaust.

I think it is just a statement of fact. I’ve read that the work camps had much higher death rates than the Jewish death camps with the furnaces. Perhaps it was the total number of deaths, as there were way more work (slave) camps than death camps. They would work them to death (or killing them when they could no longer work) and bring in more.

Awhile ago there was a thread on a V2 rocket, I think one had been found buried in a field. Some freeper mentioned that way more people died in slave camps building the V2 than the rockets ever killed.

Yes. The slave camps killed by overwork. Much of the Jewish intelligentsia were sent there. Munitions were manufactured, granite quarried....People of absolutely no use to the Third Reich were shipped off and summarily killed. Worldly possessions...what was left was shoes and clothes, were taken, and they were shorn of hair for mattress stuffing and wigs.

These are the things done by Europe's most progressive society, a scant 80 years ago. It's why the cries of "Nazi!" by the new American left are so infuriating. `

Unfortunately the civilian population had no stomach for more war. At the time of Bastogne the manufacturers in the U.S. were lobbying to step down from war production.

And then the Soviets had the numbers on us. They believed “numbers have a quality of their own”.
They had 11.5 million troops facing 4.5 million troops of the rest of the allies combined.

They also had superior numbers of armor and artillery.
