A federal judge dismissed charges Tuesday against two doctors and six others involved in the genital mutilation of nine girls at a Detroit clinic, and also declared a US law banning the practice unconstitutional. US District Judge Bernard Friedman dismissed mutilation and conspiracy charges against Dr. Jumana Nagarwala, who performed the surgery, and Dr. Fakhruddin Attar, who allowed his clinic in Livonia, Michigan, to be used for the procedure. The same charges were dismissed against Attar's wife, Farida, and Tahera Shafiq, who assisted in the procedure, as well as four women who tricked their daughters into going to the suburban clinic to undergo the practice for religious purposes. Four of the nine girls are from Michigan; the others are residents of Illinois and Minnesota.

Bernard Friedman is hardly an anomaly in that respect, though he is a practitioner of the statists' equivalent of sharia: "progressive law."
Friedman also cried from sheer happiness after a superior court let stand his pro-homosexual marriage ruling. The man is an emotional egomaniac with a judges robe and a fetish for "social justice."
I have heard of more cases in my community of Rabbis & doctors chopping off penises in botched circumcisions than penile cancer. That is just anecdotally though, and most people of a certain age are circumcised here.
The Left has long regarded Islam as a useful co-belligerent in their culture war against Western Civ, America, and Israel.

I was going to let that comment go, but it's preposterous and downright rude. That's type of comment super-feminists and enemies of liberty make. If that describes you, then fine.
I have spent my adult life caring for victims of crime and protecting kids from monsters. But in the real world tough decisions need to be made. And I cannot compromise my principles about Federal vs. State government simply because some savage religion practices a barbaric ritual before a State has a chance to make the practice illegal.
Friedman sounds Jewish. Perhaps part of his motivation may be to protect circumcision which can also be viewed as a genital mutilation.
Amazing who those feminazis will climb joyfully into bed with.

This type of crime only affects females. It also affects minors. If state(s) won’t tackle it, then the feds need to step in.
Michigan was the 26th State to outlaw the practice. Others will follow if necessary, but States don’t usually make laws regarding practices that aren’t an issue in that State. Namely, States without people who practice this form of barbarism. Hopefully this act will push the remaining States to enact laws against it BEFORE it becomes an issue.

There is a reason the Feds have the FBI with a 35,000 employee workforce. To me, this isn’t just a state issue.
There is no such thing as “judicial activism from the right”. The right represents upholding the Constitution, and female genital mutilation is not free exercise of religion.
