DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A 10-year-old DeKalb County boy says his gym teacher forced him to stand in the cold and rain for more than 30 minutes as a form of punishment. And he didn't have a jacket.
The boy's mother is furious and wants answers. She said her sons teacher made him wait up against the wall on a day where it was around 41 degrees and pouring rain outside.
Everybody saw me like soaked, the boy said.
The boy described pulling his hands up into his shirt and holding his fists under his chin and biting his fingers to try and stay warm.
The mother wants that teacher off the job.
Tara Gilmore told Channel 2 Action News this all started over some kind of dance move her son did on the floor of the gym at Henderson Mill Elementary School on Monday.
I think best case he would do the right thing and turn in his resignation, Gilmore said.
Gilmore said her son, Joe Austin, even considered walking home.
Austin said he understands why his mother is so upset.
I shouldn't be out in the cold with only a t-shirt with short sleeves, Austin said.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to the school district.
In a statement, DeKalb County Schools says: It's highest priority is the health and safety of our students. Furthermore, our staff is always expected to abide by certain standards of conduct.
A district spokesperson went on to say it is investigating the incident as a personnel matter and will take appropriate action based on the findings.

“Gym teachers are not authorized to punish anybody. Thats not their job.”
In your schooling era/location, that’s likely a very true statement.
When I was going to school, dunce caps, standing in the corner, a quick whack on the back of the hand with a ruler, kept after school to complete assignments, made to stay in from recess for punitive reasons. Let’s not forget spankings in the lower grades. Those are some I recall.
I recall no kids ever “being sent to the office”. In my era the administrators job was administration, the teacher’s job was to teach, which when necessary included punishment. We also never had school shrinks or nurses. We all did quite well up to graduation and none of us turned out to be the kind to dumbed down gimme gimme wanna wanna now now wastes of human flesh that schools are turning out now.
However I do not agree with a kid put outside in 41 degree rainy weather, if that actually is a fact.
News flash! It's 2018, feminism is well rooted and MOST boys' father figures ARE THEIR MOTHERS. Most boys I've seen these days act effeminate. This DISGUSTS me and it's not too difficult to figure out why the PROLIFERATION of effeminate boys continues.
I went to a rural elementary school in western Michigan with a Dutch protestant principal that did indeed have a paddle.
And yes my parents used belts, and they didnt like getting calls that took them away from their factory jobs if you couldn’t act right.
And no it is still retarded to put a kid outside in the cold with no coat or jacket because you couldn’t think of a better way of punishing them because they did a nasty dance.
If the kid caught pneumonia and maybe died from it, I can only guess that the people thinking this was totally ok would only offer some prayers.
in my gymnasium!!!
White boys can’t dance......................
gym teacher would have gone for a ride in a tub covered with ice until arrival at the river and met Mr. Woodchipper. The Fish are always hungry. They love freshly chilled humashi.
For the 2 of you and whomever else failed to read the information Posted.
The Kid did a dance move on the Basketball Court...
Not a reason to be made to stand in the Rain in the Low 40s for 30 minuets.
If that coach is black and the Kid white then a Racial Discrimination Suit needs to be Filed.
And before anybody jumps Me. think in a reversed situation, what would be happening ?
sharpton, holder, zer0, crazy maxine - Should I continue???
My good mom made me ride my bike 5 miles to school in about 35F cold after i missed the bus, and i had no gloves. And then I got a detention when with freezing red numb .hands i was sitting down in my first period seat as the buzzer went of.
Some would think that was cruel but it was not. And I do not think I ever missed the bus again. While in this case the punishment, if as described, seems over the top - though I think many teens would do such on a dare to gain esteem - doing a show-off dance move in obvious defiance of the teacher was likely one of many provocations by a show-off teens with a parent who likely never really effectively disciplines him, and which is worse than any excessive discipline the teacher required.
Wait till he get hurt playing tackle football, which we did on our own with no equipment as teens, some quite large (unlike me).
My son is now a 31 year old former Marine; I would have been fine had he got his ass paddled at this kid’s age. You stick him out in a cold rain for 40 minutes then you can deal with me.
WTF has happened to boys? Oh wait, I already know the answer to that question.
You must be a joy to live with - and - the word “joy” is sarcasm. You missed the point. No need to put the kid out in the rain, he could have done push ups etc in the gym, no need to shove him out in the rain, the freakin’ kid is 10 years old, he’s not in the army. SMH....I’m glad you weren’t my father.
My guess is it had something to do with the popular video game "Fortnite".
