DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A 10-year-old DeKalb County boy says his gym teacher forced him to stand in the cold and rain for more than 30 minutes as a form of punishment. And he didn't have a jacket.
The boy's mother is furious and wants answers. She said her son’s teacher made him wait up against the wall on a day where it was around 41 degrees and pouring rain outside.
“Everybody saw me like soaked,” the boy said.
The boy described pulling his hands up into his shirt and holding his fists under his chin and biting his fingers to try and stay warm.
The mother wants that teacher off the job.
Tara Gilmore told Channel 2 Action News this all started over some kind of dance move her son did on the floor of the gym at Henderson Mill Elementary School on Monday.
“I think best case he would do the right thing and turn in his resignation,” Gilmore said.
Gilmore said her son, Joe Austin, even considered walking home.
Austin said he understands why his mother is so upset.
“I shouldn't be out in the cold with only a t-shirt with short sleeves,” Austin said.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to the school district.
In a statement, DeKalb County Schools says: “It's highest priority is the health and safety of our students. Furthermore, our staff is always expected to abide by certain standards of conduct.”
A district spokesperson went on to say it is investigating the incident as a personnel matter and will take appropriate action based on the findings.

How is this NOT child abuse?
I have no problem with that, but this was a dangerous, and potentially deadly ‘punishment’ that teachers are not authorized to do. Would the English teacher have the ‘power’ to do this?....................

He’s only TEN years old-——the teacher was wrong and the mother was wrong going to the press.
Calling the poor kid a FEMBOY it over the top.

I got the paddle by the vice principle in 7th grade because my friend wanted to pass notes about the hot teacher. But that was a long time ago.

Yes, that was the way we did as well.................
How much more of this has to happen for parents to wise up and homeschool (or unschool). Or a good Catholic school.
Public schools are prisons and many teachers are little more than child abusers (to the white boys at least).
Do the right thing before the damage done to you child is irreparable.

A half hour in cold rain won't kill a kid, but it will get his attention. Had one of my boys (they're 42 and 39 now) complained of this treatment I'd have asked "What'd you do?" Behavior is supposed to have consequences.
Dude, you got way more out of that article than I did! From your many responses to this post, I get that you think the solution to our country’s ills is more punishment. Weird!
I had MUCH worse punishments than that.
I went to Catholic school.

Yup, they are preparing their kid to be just another entitled snowflake.
People pay hundreds of dollars to sit in the rain at NFL games for 2 1/2 hours.
I must'a had good ones, then. They'd work you hard but give praise commensurate with the effort you expended. And the usual result of misbehavior was running laps, weather notwithstanding. This WAS back in the '50s, though.
Seriously. One of the biggest problems today is that most boys' FATHER FIGURES ARE THEIR MOTHERS.. AND WE WONDER WHY THERE ARE SO MANY EMASCULATED, FEMINIZED METROSEXUAL BOYS TODAY... SICKENING!!!!
But perhaps a society full of homos, crossdressers, transgenders, manly females and girly men is all just GOD'S PUNISHMENT FOR FEMINISM.
GYM teacher punishes boy.. MOMMY TO THE RESCUE! This is a HORRIBLE lesson for the kid and only REINFORCES EMASCULATION!!!
Mine were in the 60’s and early 70’s.
Looking back, as an adult, I now believe they were not only sadists but homos as well..............
