The cable network made an emergency request so its correspondent could have access to the White House as lawsuit continues.
WASHINGTON—A federal judge granted an emergency motion to restore the White House press credential of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta—a victory for the network in a closely watched press-freedom case.
The lawsuit could determine whether the government can ban individual reporters from public buildings.
District Judge Timothy Kelly, who was appointed to the bench by President Trump, granted CNN’s request for a restraining order temporarily restoring Mr. Acosta’s press access to the White House while the case proceeds.
Lawyers for Mr. Acosta, the network’s chief White House correspondent, argued that the unusual revocation of a reporter’s press pass by the White House last week necessitated emergency action.
Mr. Trump has regularly attacked CNN, and Thursday’s ruling was a setback for the White House. Government lawyers acknowledged in court they knew of no other situation where the White House had revoked a press pass under similar circumstances.
The legal maneuvering was part of a CNN lawsuit alleging that the Trump administration violated Mr. Acosta’s First Amendment right to gather news, as well as his due-process right to challenge a government-imposed punishment. Judge Kelly didn’t rule on the merits of CNN’s overall case.

That is what happened that day. Not only did Acosta do what he did with the intern, but Ryan just stood up and starting yelling questions at Pres Trump after Pres Trump had called upon another reporter.
The Washington Press Club or what ever it’s called, gets to determine the seating chart which is something that should not be allowed, but that’s the current rule. I hope Acosta sits there 6 long years without being called on.
In light of this ruling, here’s what the Whitehouse should do.
1. Issue an order revoking all existing press passes, citing new security guidelines.
2. Announce that new passes will be issued.
3. As usual, since only a limited number of seats exist in the Whitehouse press room, only a limited number of passes can be issued.
4. Issue new passes on a first come first serve basis. “Oops, Acosta misses the cutoff”
The President may run the White House with the NPS. Revoke all the passes and have the press apply for one day passes at random times during the week.
Have them go through the security all visitors to the White House go through as visitors—no exceptions. Have only Park Service hours with the permit in hand.
Insist that the tour is a requirement for access.
And start giving press availability to individuals and individual networks ONLY.

Since the fourth estate is working in concert to support CNN on this, I suggest the WH simply revoke all press passes. Then it's not a unique situation. Let 'em all get interns to escort them in and out.
The US Supreme Court has no Constitutional authority over the White House just the same as Congress and the White House can’t force the US Supreme Court to open itself to disruptive CNN reporters and their TV cameras.
President Trump should ignore this illegal court order and ask the Senate to impeach and remove the Federal judge for exceeding his authority.

Easy - just hold frequent small meetings with selected reporters in the Oval Office.
Ok, that’s fine, let the Acosta blowhard in the room. BUT, his regular seat at the WH pressers will be in a back corner and POTUS/Sarah Sanders/whoever is at the podium will never call on this clown! Just ignore him!
Acosta can yell from the back of the room all he wants; let his “journalistic” colleagues enjoy the childish tantrum show.
Will CNN then ask for temporary relief of his seating assignment? Is this federal judge going to instruct POTUS to seat Acosta in the front row and call on him at every presser as well?

1. This is temporary.
2. Fine, so restore Acosta’s press pass - and don’t hold ANY pressers until the case is heard and resolved the way it should be - even if that means until this is heard on appeal to the DC Circuit or even the Supreme Court. I don’t care if it takes a YEAR to resolve this - Acosta has no RIGHT to be in the WH Press Office, it is a pure privilege.
3. While NOT having any pressers, let it be known to everyone (via Tweet, of course!) that this is because of Acosta. Make it just like boot camp, where the entire unit is punished because of one guy f’ing up - that’ll put a LOT of pressure on both Acosta and CNN from the other reporters and networks.
4. All announcements until then will be on the WH website - videos of Sarah Sanders or of the President, so that the presstitutes can SEE what they’re missing. Trump can make some comment about how quiet it is....
In short, take this temporary ruling and jam it right up their rear ends.
Oh, and when Trump gets the ruling that MUST come, he should ban CNN and each individual now from CNN. Let them suck on that.

I knew I had seen that procedure you brought up - someone with the mike actually holding on to it rather than just handing it over to the questioner.
Another thing - didn't Obama pull someone's press pass during his administration?
