Judge Grants CNN’s Motion to Restore Jim Acosta’s White House Press Pass

WASHINGTON—A federal judge granted an emergency motion to restore the White House press credential of CNN correspondent Jim Acosta—a victory for the network in a closely watched press-freedom case.

The lawsuit could determine whether the government can ban individual reporters from public buildings.

District Judge Timothy Kelly, who was appointed to the bench by President Trump, granted CNN’s request for a restraining order temporarily restoring Mr. Acosta’s press access to the White House while the case proceeds.

Lawyers for Mr. Acosta, the network’s chief White House correspondent, argued that the unusual revocation of a reporter’s press pass by the White House last week necessitated emergency action.

I’m so sick of seeing the headline...”A federal judge has...” because 9 times out of 10, it goes against our side.

The #FakeNews has been training inattentive news consumers to respond to the phrase "A Federal judge today ruled" like Pavlov's dogs for several decades.

You ALWAYS have to dig to find out that the "judge" is a Rapin Bill judge, a Bammy Skidmark judge, or a Peanut Boy judge, which means that the "ruling" is most likely totally partisan DemoKKKrat.

You have to retrain yourself to immediately think "juck the fudge" until you find out the particulars.

Note to you all: the thread you were discussing this on has been locked

This is an utter absurdity. If Acosta is there because of this laughable travesty of justice, neither Trump nor Sanders or anyone else in the administration should ever call on him. In no way, shape, or form is this preening, grandstanding propagandist an actual reporter, and he should never be treated as one. Of course, being the arrogant jackass that he is, he would still scream out questions out-of-turn, but that’s no reason to ever acknowledge his presence. No judge can actually make Acosta superior to the president or the press secretary, no matter how much he whines and acts like he is.

Since there is now a right to be present at White House briefing in the White House, I think I will demand my pass and ask the sort of drooling, admiring, soft-ball, love-fest questions the “press” asked Obama.

"This kind of ruling has a daisy chain effect that trickles down to so many events in society. This judge just turned everything we know on its head. Disruption and disorder can no longer be controlled. The whole country just became Antifa."

There really is something anarchic in this ruling. If the right to free speech includes the right to attend a presidential press briefing, why doesn't it extend to any governmental business whatsoever, including this judge's courtroom? Does Jim Acosta have rights that the rest of us don't have?

That is kind of where I was going with number three.

But it would be funny if he just never called on him. CNN would have no choice but to swap him out. They would effectively have no voice in the briefings. Not good - for them.

If you touched the Shit Judge like Acosta “touched” the intern, you’d be in prison a long time.

Remove this fake judge.

FOX NEWS will tank in their ratings now since their CEO sided with CNN. OANN will get all their viewers now. OANN sided with Trump.

1. The US government should announce that effective immediately, it will no recognize the White House press credentialing performed by the White House Corresponts’ Association, nor will the WHCA any longer control the assigning of seats at White House press conferences.

2. The WHCA is not a government organization. It is a private industry cartel like OPEC that controls access to the White House. The Trump Administration should refer the matter to the Antitrust Division of the DOJ and the FTC for study to determine whether it has been operating illegally for many years.

3. The White House should make press briefings available to any interested person. Applications to attend can be sent to a new office. Persons will be chosen at random after filtering for geographic diversity in order to ensure that attendees are not disproportionately drawn from NY, LA or DC.

"The issue is he used physical force against a young woman."

I saw the video; if that was "physical force," the woman who bumped into me at the supermarket yesterday committed assault and battery. This ruling sucks, but don't let it in hinge on this dubious claim of "physical force."

Does this mean that anyone can walk into the judges courtroom and start spouting off about the judge’s idiotic rulings?

That’s too broad. The judge didn’t rule the equivalent.

But he did rule that an observer, once granted access to his court room, can’t be stopped from being disruptive without a formal hearing.

Huckabee has it exactly right; no judge in the country would tolerate behavior like Acosta’s. If I acted that way at the local social security office, the guard would be all over me and show me the door.

I just thought of how Trump and Kelly may be playing 4D chess with CNN:

Trump allows Acosta back in, but never acknowledges him (and who would blame him, considering how Acosta got back in).

This leaves CNN in a pickle because it means they are not represented at the pressers. And good luck replacing him with someone else. Those passes are handed out to individuals. CNN may be out, even though they have a guy in there. And this plays to Trump’s base regarding our attitude about judges.

Don't know if you're right about that, it would serve them right.

To me, fox reeks of cnn since election night.
