On Wednesday, Trump reversed course on his Law and order platform, announcing that he would support the First Step Act, which is set to reduce sentences for drug traffickers and immediately release 4,000 convicted criminals. Just this year, in March, Trump told supporters in New Hampshire that in the midst of the opioid crisis where drug traffickers have flooded American communities with fentanyl, cocaine, and heroin the U.S. needed to review giving the death penalty to drug traffickers.

I don't know what's behind this--fake news, a reversal of position or some kind of compromise. Maybe we'll find out eventually.
Think it through: It’s the black vote. He’s a genius.
Take the Money out of Drugs, and Drugs Disappear.....
The article really makes no attempt to shine light on the whole bill, or the intent here. What “traffickers” are they talking about? Addicts who sell to support their habit or cartels? I’ll wait until I hear what Trump has to say. I trust his judgement.
There will always be a percentage of society that attempts to escape. The key is to make provide less reason for an escape. This means opening opportunities. In history escapism has grown most often when opportunities have been tamped down to prevent a challenge to the status quo.
I sense revolution on the horizon - peaceful or violent is yet to be determined.
Give me a break. The law has been so idiotically defined that someone with a few ounces of pot gets charged with intent to distribute...
I predict that this will increase the GOP share of the black vote by close to 0%, while increasing crime more than 0%. A bad deal.
“I’m going to be much more lenient to drug dealers..”
I wonder what *Candice Owens* would say to that..?
She’d be insulted and outraged, I think.
This change will surely please the leftists who regard themselves as “The Black Leadership”, but will it turn average blacks into GOP voters..?
Not in 100 years.
Turning them red is a FOOL’S ERRAND.
Van Jones Says Donald Trump Is On His Way To Being The ‘Uniter-in-Chief’

Drug traffickers ... bull, most are small time dealers with criminal records who nobody will hire. No more paying to lock up non violent druggies and dummies. Go after the cartels and money players.
There is a list of ineligible crimes, ranging from sexual assault to murder. This bill institutes early release based on earning days off for "anti-recidivism" training; however, in my experience (with juvenile offenders), I saw little benefit from such programs.
The fact that the bill states that they will prioritize high-risk prisoners means those with the best chances of reintegration will be at the bottom of the list and those who are released will more likely re-offend.
I find it interesting that the people making that case are LIBERALS.
It's sort of amazing, actually. It's really instructive.
Those of us who have been victimized by those who break into our homes and steal from us and rob and kill us to support their destructive drug habits will not vote for anyone putting these drug abusing thugs back on the street too soon to just keep on stealing from us and keep victimizing us even more even if your name is Donald Trump. Enough is enough already. As much as I like Trump if he makes it easier for drug user/abusers to keep robbing us I will be off him in a flash.
Same kind of argument they like to employ against those who don't agree with them, "if you don't agree with me then you're just being a racist".
From what I understand, this is Ivanka’s brain child. She is a liberal and has no business pushing programs on the restof the U.S.
A drug dealer shot my 20 year old daughter.. yes, lets release them. More crminals on the streets, but its not your dearest family, right.. so its genius.
I’m very skeptical about the article, by the way, and will keep an eye out for anything to the contrary.
Indeed. The same is true for illegal immigration.
