Julian Assange has been charged, prosecutors reveal inadvertently in court filing

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been charged under seal, prosecutors inadvertently revealed in a recently unsealed court filing — a development that could significantly advance the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election and have major implications for those who publish government secrets.

The disclosure came in a filing in a case unrelated to Assange. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kellen S. Dwyer, urging a judge to keep the matter sealed, wrote that “due to the sophistication of the defendant and the publicity surrounding the case, no other procedure is likely to keep confidential the fact that Assange has been charged.” Later, Dwyer wrote the charges would “need to remain sealed until Assange is arrested.”

Dwyer is also assigned to the WikiLeaks case. People familiar with the matter said what Dwyer was disclosing was true, but unintentional.

Joshua Stueve, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia, said, “The court filing was made in error. That was not the intended name for this filing.” An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment.

Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia have long been investigating Assange and, in the Trump administration, had begun taking a second look at whether to charge members of the WikiLeaks organization for the 2010 leak of diplomatic cables and military documents that the anti-secrecy group published. Investigators also had explored whether WikiLeaks could face criminal liability for the more recent revelation of sensitive CIA cybertools.

Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III also has explored WikiLeaks’ publication of emails from the Democratic National Committee and the account of Hillary Clinton’s then-campaign chairman, John D. Podesta. Officials have alleged that the emails were hacked by Russian spies and transferred to WikiLeaks

Trump should pre-emptively pardon Assange for all and any crimes he has been charged with. This would forestall his statements from being used in any charges against him, while simultaneously shifting the media hounds away from the "blue wave/white house chaos/omg melania made a tweet" narratives they are pushing of late.

Assange has probably been listed as an official "witness" from day one on Mueller's little project. Any pardon or any other interference there would trigger a "witness tampering" charge and screw Trump. Trump needs to stay far away from this whole thing.

This fight is between Assange and the Deep State (on behalf of Hillary). He can either come out and fight, or they're going to keep him bottled up forever.

Tonight's ploy (planting of this silly story) is probably a last ditch effort by Mueller to either get Assange to make a move or make Trump do something stupid.

I just did a search for Assange at Qpub and there’s nothing like what you wrote. There’s nothing inconsistent there with regards to Assange. You might want to check first before posting.

If Asante is prosecuted for stealing classified information from Mrs Clinton’s email server, will she be a witness for him to reassert her contention that there was no classified information on it.

The WaPo, in its zeal to kill Trump, better hope the FBI doesn’t pursue a criminal case fagainst Wikileaks for publishing secret government info. That’s something newspapers do every single day and it’s the only way a whistleblower can expose corrupt government operations.

Concurring bump...for all their kavetching about press freedoms with Acosta, the MSM is strangely silent when it comes to Julian Assange.

According to the Q world. The President should be in full control by now. The investigation should had led to the arrest of evil Never-Trumpers and Democrats along with Hillary by now.

The whole Q thing is a symptom of a failed democracy where the people are loosing faith in their government and willing to grasp on any false hopes.

Is the Q world a total distraction of what is really going on?

What has wikileaks done that the new york times hasn’t done, 10 times over

i mean, besides the fact that it was democrat corruption... national security??

if the DNC had classified materials relating to national security, then it was a breech of security when they received the materials... not when someone else exposed them for it

Being an Enemy of the (deep) State is a very dangerous thing.

Fatal, even.

he has to be convicted first to be pardoned. which could be why they are preparing this trial. Then he is free to testify on the other things he knows about without fear of being arrested.

Truth is for the conspiracy theorists.

CIA Mockingbird media lies are for the news.

The very term “conspiracy theory” was introduced by the CIA to cover up the Kennedy assassination.

LOL

“Trust Sessions...Mid-Terms are safe”

Jim Jones, Charles Manson, Scientology, Heavens Gate, all prefer(ed) to believe the lie rather than be told the painful truth they were being lied to.
