Another great American disappears into eternity. Clark was an incredible guitarist. I guess he and Buck Owens are together again, “pickin’ and a grinnin’”

Both Roy and Glen Campbell were such talented entertainers I think their incredible instrumental virtuosity was seriously underrated. I would say both were as good, or better, as any of the rock guitar gods of that time such as Hendrix, Page or Clapton. Campbell was one of the guitar players for the greatest studio band of all time - the LA “Wrecking Crew”. (Sorry Muscle Shoals fans, I think the Wrecking Crew were better). Glen was the ONLY one ever in the Wrecking Crew who couldn’t read a lick of sheet music. He didn’t have to, he could listen to any song once and immediately jump in and play a guitar part as if he had been practicing the charts for week. He would invent riffs on the fly that became defining hooks for hit songs by such greats as the Beach Boys, Mamas and Papas, Byrds, Sinatra, Sonny and Cher and many others. Roy did a version of the classical spanish song “Maleguena” that was stunning. (he played it once on an episode of the show “Odd Couple”. RIP Roy, you were one of a kind - you keep Glen honest up there.
