The open borders/non-enforcement policy has been in effect since GHW Bush.

I left So Calif-—AFTER 29 years of living there, working there, owning a house there, and being productive & useful there. Had many friends & enjoyed being there.
I am still seeking more prosperity and safety.
Since you & yours—who have Secret Service protection don’t have a clue what it is like to always be on the alert for trouble, I don’t know how to explain it to you. I will try.
There were too many illegals in So Calif & other parts of the country when I moved there in Feb 1964. It was a major factor in my decision to leave in May 1993. I had had more than one scary interaction with illegals & I no longer felt safe. I left my clients, since I was self-employed, packed up my house & 4 horses & moved 500 miles further north. I left behind over 19 clients I did bookkeeping for.
The illegals were there, also, just not as many. Problems there centered around illegal drugs & “Medical Marijuana Cards” and the jerks who had them. You couldn’t drive safely enough with them on the road.
I even had the pleasure of having 2 of them, while fighting over the drugs they had just scored to ‘celebrate one of them getting out of 30 days of rehab’, crash their car off my rural road, move a boulder into my driveway, rendering it impassable, and tearing out a section of my fencing at 11 PM at night. That was so very enjoyable to deal with .....especially since horses were inside that fence. It isn’t fun to have to worry about dark Bay horses escaping into the night country roads.
You may have been raised with the ‘Bracero’ type of Mexican, George. With a staff for your family that had Hispanic names & was polite to your family all the time. Didn’t have tattoos over every inch of their skin or run a drug/coyote operation in their days off.
