Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) is the projected winner in Montana, surviving a race that tightened in the final weeks amid heavy campaigning by President Trump and his eldest son, Donald Trump, Jr.
Tester, a third-generation farmer from north central Montana, ran on his record and did not invite any prominent Democratic politicians to campaign for him in an effort to keep the focus on him and his opponent, Matt Rosendale, a Maryland transplant who moved to the state in 2002.

You are correct, Montanans have a repulsion for candidates not born in Montana.
Gianforte was able to overcome that obstacle in the last part of his campaign when he body slammed the reporter.
Tester is still lagging behind in the count and almost all votes counted. Don’t understand.
Like someone seid, “college towns” would be my best guess. Lots of libs sitting around with nothing else to do vs. hard working people who didn’t vote. A shame.
I like giving Tester the nickname “Toaster”, in hopes that’s what he will be next time.
The libertarian pulled out and endorsed Rosendale but it was too late, too little and the lib still got enough votes to save Tester.
That was posted here in FR. MSM knew about it but spiked it.And as I monitored certain talk shows that was not brought out and hadn’t become an issue in that campaign .

You are assuming or presuming that the GOP wants to win. From what I have seen, every member of the GOP is happy and honored to kiss the Democrat’s asses and to be their whipping boy[s] as long as the Democrats throw them a few crumbs now and then.
Montanans should never wear cowboy hats again. They should wear pink pussy hats.
looks close enough for a recount........they should file for one.
Tester’s up by 7k with only 5k votes left to count (not knowing about absentee)
“I went to a VERY liberal school. Only strengthened my resolve.”
I was at Wazzu for 3 sems and I transferred ton Stanford eventually. It’s in eastern washington and U Washington usually attracts the stupid libs all over the state leaving Wazzu a bit conservative.
I had a buddy, outdoors type, who spent a few years going to school in Bozeman. He was just glowing about the state.
Tester dominated the ad race from the beginning. At the end, it had to be (at least) 10-15 Tester ads to every Rosendale ad. They painted Rosendale as Maryland Matt - the out of state developer who is here to ruin Montana. The last 3 weeks they assailed Rosendale as the former insurance commisioner who is here to take away your insurance. These ads were running non-stop with no rebutals from Rosendale. The DNC & other groups put a ton of money into this race. Rosendale ran a horrible race.
That’s an arrogant and ignorant statement.
I grew up in Michigan and now live in Maryland. Am I thus ineligible for office in some other state.
Better yet, I have a friend who grew up in Maryland and now lives in Montana. He voted Rosendale.
Is he not eligible to run?
Any time the commie libs can keep one close enough to take it into the darkness over night, they can “find” the ballots needed to give them the win. Tester is a commie piece of sh*t.
Let’s hope “what comes around goes around” becomes a reality for him someday.
Yes, but also remember that Montana has a strong union presence. For one thing the northern main line of Warren Buffet's BNSF run through Montana. The railroads have always had a huge influence in Montana.
Railroad towns are always full of ethnics and liberals and socialists. In many ways they are similar to industrial towns in the Northeast USA. During the early part of the 20th Century the reds in the form of the IWW "Wobblies" were big in Montana, and lingering sentiments remain. In fact the IWW still has an office in Missoula.
Sad to say, Montana is not all ranch land and big sky.
Why aren’t they calling Arizona?
That would seem to be the crux of it.
It's funny the way people can be about stuff like this.
About 20 years ago there was a hot and heavy mayoral race in Grundy , Virginia, a very small Appalachian coal town. The two candidates were neck and neck. It finally got to the point where the one candidate accused the other of being a foreigner. Although the "foreigner" grew up all his life in Grundy, and graduated from school there, he had the bad luck of being born 12 miles away across the border in Kentucky. He was thus forever marked as an "outsider" and "foreigner", even though Grundy was the only home he had ever known.
