BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A father fatally shot a masked man Saturday who opened fire inside a McDonald’s restaurant, police said.
The father and his sons were leaving the restaurant as the masked man walked in and started shooting, WBRC reported.
The father then started firing at the masked man. It is unclear if the man was targeting someone at the restaurant or attempting to rob it, WBRC reported.
The father and one of his children were struck in the hail of bullets. The father had life-threatening injuries, WBRC reported. The child is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the father, who has not been identified, will not be charged, WBRC reported.

I am 70 years old. I have been shooting since I was ten years old under supervision of my beloved granddad. At 13 I was allowed to have my own weapon and ammunition in my bedroom I was a hunter but no longer am unless it is vermin. I just got tired of killing but have zero problems with ethical hunters. My friend hunts my land and the venison and turkey is delicious
I am always armed anyplace it is legal. I am a protector of innocents and skilled.
I practice often with weapons on my rifle and pistol range. I am skilled.
Very little new information on two 10:00 o’clock local TV news shows. They did say the father and son do not have life threatening injuries, and the McDonald’s is on Lomb Avenue.
And authorities are trying to identify the dead shooter. Unclear if shooter was targeting someone in the restaurant or trying to rob it.
