She might have forgotten where home is, but Julie the cat never forgets a face.

According to Current in Carmel, the black feline from Carmel, Indiana, slipped out of her home in 2012 and could not be found.

At the time, Lorinda Roberts, mother to the cat’s owner, Jon Gulla, relentlessly searched for the feline, but had to refocus her efforts when Gulla was diagnosed with lymphoma shortly after Julie’s escape. Julie remained missing, but was never far from Gulla and Roberts’ thoughts. “Every once in a while you find that needle in a haystack,” Roberts told Current in Carmel on why she never gave up hope the cat would be found.

Notice how dog people always have to chime in on a cat thread to perpetuate a stereotype? Just waiting for...
“Dogs have owners, cats have staff.”
“I love cats, they taste just like chicken.”
Etc etc etc.

Pound kitties are the best. No genetic issues. I love my 2, and they love me.

I had a foster cat for a while. A few years later the original owner sent the cat back.

The poor cat cried for hours in the car. When she got to my door she recognized where she was. She stopped crying. She jumped out of her carriers and immediately ran into the house. She sniffed every inch and settled in immediately. The cat remembered even though it was years later.

I agree-my cats have had long lives-average 18-19 years-and have been healthy. One orange tabby lived to 22-all have been shelter/abandoned cats. I also never have more than 3-4 cats at a time-they gert along well because each one gets enough attention-I never have more than one dog, though-large guard/working breed dogs only, purchased as pups from a reputable AKC kennel and raised with cats required-my last dog was a Siberian Husky-she died in her sleep 2 years ago at 17+ and both cats looked for her everywhere in the house for months after..

Remarkable she survived this long without claws. Around here a cat that strays too far is coyote or raptor bait. I wish our furballs would get in the barn at night but noooo, they have to hunt and patrol. They too are basic black with some white bellies.

Are they true Manx or mutations born without tails? We have one of the latter. He is on the desk helping me type. Ours usually stay outside but visit in the evenings by special appearance.

I’ve understood the short tailed mutations have some back end weakness and can be incontinent. Our little guy seems fine but he is really lanky and he is probably our most personable cat. His legs are vey long by proportion, he has tufted ears and whisps of white hair almost bobcat like.

We’ve owned Great Danes. Sweet dispositions, like giant hound dogs.

Who says true love is limited only to humans?

Dogs really and truly love you. Cats? Fixed males are lovers, females not so much. Dogs have family, cats have staff.

Our little tailless wonders come from a friend who breeds Manx cats and as far as I know, they are true Manx. But, good question.

We have had Manx cats around the barns for decades and they all have very unique personalities and seem to genuinely like human contact.

Sometimes at night when I am pushing my wheelbarrow around feeding the horses, I look around and all four cats are following me, then they do drive-byes when I go back to the barn. Have to laugh at them.
