WashingtonSenate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today issued the following statement on todays nominations hearing:
Before last week, the Judiciary Committee had never held a nominations hearing during an extended recess without the minoritys consent. In fact, the Judiciary Committee is the only committee holding hearings before the election. To be clear, Democrats did not agree to hold hearings when the Senate was adjourned.
Todays hearing is the eighth held this Congress with two circuit court nomineeseach held over the objection of Democrats. This happened just three times during the entire eight years of the Obama administrationeach time in consultation with Republicans.
Todays hearing includes a controversial nominee, Eric Miller, who does not have blue slips from Senators Maria Cantwell or Patty Murray. This is just the second nominee in history advanced over the objection of both home-state senators. Senators Cantwell and Murray have made clear they were not consulted on this nomination, which bypassed the bipartisan process in their state.
Republicans are breaking every norm to stack the courts with young, ideological nominees who will undermine the rights and protections of all Americans for generations to come.
Lock her up for lack of comity and ethics.
Being a bullying Witch has consequences.
Her credibility is totally shredded.
She needs to be ignored going forward.
“Republicans are breaking every norm to stack the courts”
Um I think Democrats have been doing that for years.......that is why we are in this mess...........They place in Judges who do not follow the rule of law
Someone pass DiFi a crying towel.
We won you lost
I guess Diane didnt get the memo. If Dims are going to be Resistors, Republicans dont care about history, precedent or whatever technique Dims are trying to whine about. Reid went nuclear to get his way. Elections have consequences. Dims will give no quarter if they regain the Senate.
IIRC, McConnell struck a deal with Schmucky to allow confirmation of 15 judges in return for letting dems go campaign.
DiFi is just posturing
and you sat on Blasey Ford’s allegations and leaked them at a time when you calculated they could do maximum damage.
And Harry Reid invoked the nuclear option which had never been done for judicial appointees before.
and it was Democrats who politicized the confirmation process starting with Robert Bork.
Oh and it was Democrats again who tried to torpedo Clarence Thomas with similar accusations without any supporting evidence.
So nobody really cares that Republicans are playing hardball. The Democrats have more than earned it.
...Republicans are breaking every norm to stack the courts...
The rules are ALWAYS different for Democrats.

The Republicans BETTER be stacking the courts with young, ideological nominees who will protect the rights of all Americans for generations to come!!

These two in question were not part of the 15 judges mentioned. IIRC, however, Sen McConnell did some very good tap dancing using ‘fine print,’ as it were, to vet these two nominees. LOL
I think they’re extremely angry because they have to make a choice: Abandon the vetting process and go home to campaign or stay to vet and miss the badly needed campaigning for those on the Judicial Committee.
Grassley letter to Feinstein Oct. 15 .... he has more than accommodated her & he’s “done” doing that at this point. He also points out that she DID consent to hearings scheduled for October 10, 17, and 24. Feinstein blew whatever goodwill she had with Grassley with the Ford stunt during the Kavanaugh hearing.
